What's New

Version 4.9.075

Apologies to those iOS10.x iPad users for the issue with the List View in the update just released- this version should address that issue. Here's a recap of what else is new for 2018:

* TouchID support- optionally use your fingerprint on compatible devices to open your password protected databases
* Data detectors in view record screen - tap underlined text within a text or note field to dial, launch a URL, send an email, etc.
* Now text and note fields will show an x button to the right to easily clear the field when editing.
* Compress View option for view record screen - only shows fields that have values set.
* Many bug fixes

Please leave a positive review and recommend us to your friends and coworkers. Thanks for your continued support!

Not worth the effort

This app has a lot of potential, but it's honestly not worth the effort to set up. The developers don't really seem to "get" iOS app design. For example, when creating a database, there are 100 possible fields in a database, which are presented in a list. This list cannot be reordered, so if you need to add a field between the current field 3 and field 4 in a list of 20 fields, you'd have to change every field from 4-21, instead of adding one field and just moving it to the position you want it to be. Another example: when entering data in an integer-only field, the app doesn't bring up the numeric keyboard, so there are extra key presses required every time just to bring up the number keys.

It may be a good database, but the interface is so bad I never really got to the point that I'd be willing to use it.

Excellent Database

This is a really easy to use program that can create simple or complicated databases and has lots to offer those who want to tinker and create more involved/linked databases as well. I purchased Bento and was totally disappointed. It is a waste of money as far as I am concerned. You CANNOT import and export from it while with this program, Handbase, transferring files back and forth is a breeze. You can use the desktop companion version of Handbase but you don't have to. If you have Access or Excel (or similar programs) you can convert those databases or spreadsheets into csv files that will upload to the ipad without issue. I have been using the Handbase demo desktop version which is actually an easy to use program in its own right (although not as slick looking as the Ipad version). I find this progam easier to understand and set up databases then in Access. It does relational and linked dbs as well! I am very impressed with this program so far and find this new version to be very stable. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for an easy to use and transferable database that has the ability to grow with you as you learn.

Excellent barcode scanner!

I've been a long time user - since Palm Pilot days and have been generally happy with the capabilities but have not stretched to product - just use it for general databases. I had a project which required the collection of a large number of serial numbers from equipment with barcodes. I tried several dedicated barcode scanner apps on the iPad without much success. I finally decided to check to see if HanDBase had any scanner capability and after a few minutes on the DDH forums, found out how to create a database with fields populated by the built in scanner. The database suits my purpose and the scanner is very accurate and reliable. The ability to sync with my Mac and then export the data in CSV allows importing into other systems. This product has a lot of capabilities that are not well publicised but fortunately the forums are really helpful. If you are looking for a database manager with more than just basic functions, this is definitely worth the money.
