First, the bonus game works. "Play" is hidden in the tree limb! Sorry if that is spoiler for some of you, but that's for all the folks that make it through a hidden object adventure game and can't seem to find the 'hidden' word "Play" on the screen and then complain that the bonus doesn't work.
This game was great! No problems at all. I don't use the sound in games, so can't rate that, but the mini-games were a lot of fun and the HO scenes were clear even when zoomed. I try not to use hints and guides and did not need them in this game, so cannot comment on some of the reviews that say that hints only work in the HO scenes. Just think about what you've seen and done and you really can figure out what to do without a hint! Great job BFG and all of the folks behind scenes! You did a great job on this one!
Entertaining Hidden Object Game
I like Big Fish games. I liked this engaging story with the minimum of dialogue-driven keystrokes. I liked the reasonably fast-paced action, the changes in location, and the well-rendered HO objects. I enjoyed the puzzles. They took a little bit of patience but were not the hardest I've played. I like tough puzzles that are interesting but not tedious. I hate puzzles where the only solution is 55 keystrokes long and fail back to square one. I liked the music but wished there had been more variety during the bonus play.
I would like to challenge Big Fish to not always fall back on the equation of ugly + strange = bad. What if the dwarf was cool? What about a puzzle where the was ogre was just a misunderstood hermit? What if Sir Frasier was the bad guy? And hey, what's up with a guy who likes killing conquistadors and endangered species?
Trial version ....
I installed the trial version. After reading some reviews, I agree that this game is not worth seven dollars. I don't understand why Big Fish adds nice game features such as a map, real hints, area hints (am I finished here? What do I do next? Etc), and highlight the areas where something can be done ... THEN come out with a new game without these features.
I imagine the developers have their own little cubicle, unaware of what the person sitting in the next cubicle is doing. Don't these programmers get together to discuss ways to keep new games consistent with others? No time for this meeting? How about a picnic? They can discuss strategies while enjoying good company and food. I bow to these gifted programmers, they are so creative!
For seasoned players, the option to skip all hints is there. I have yet to reach that level, so I do like the option for help. This game provides little of this.
Graphics are very nice and smooth. Some of the puzzles were challenging. I like this. But, back to my initial comment, not worth the cash without the added game features. I also read that the Bonus part is nonexistent. That's bogus.
