Customer Reviews

Ignore the positive reviews on this app. They are clearly planted for damage control because ever since this app was updated with a new interface it hasn't worked properly.

I try to play HBO on my tv using my iPad and iPhone using an HDMI adapter. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. The HBO logo will appear, but then the stream will stop before the video plays I do multiple restarts on separate devices, and still no playback. I've gotten a message that warns me that the feed won't play because the app is open on other devices. I've shut off the app on all my other devices, attempt to play it on only one, and the video still doesn't play.

The playback issues have been occurring ever since April 2015. Personally, I wouldn't doubt that the app is deliberately not working properly so that people can only watch HBO through a cable box, and not the app. Regardless of whether that's true or not, the app hasn't operated properly for months now, and that's simply unacceptable. The app developers must be aware of the problems from the numerous complaints. Check the Twitter feed and you'll see blanket responses to all the people complaining. Something is fishy here. Why are they not fixing this app?

I am currently re-downloading this app on my iPad mini. In doing so, I took a quick glance at the reviews for this app because I was curious. There are a tremendous number of one-starred reviews and I frankly cannot figure out HOW. I have used the HBO Go app many, many, many times on both wifi and 3G (I have the app on my phone too) and have never had a problem. The streaming works exactly as I have expected it to. The content and setup is nearly exactly as is on my Apple TV. Functionally, my experience with this app has been ideal. This is absolutely not a paid ad and I have no personal affiliations with any member of HBO staff or Apple app developers. (I only mention this because it has been alleged in other reviews)

Absolutely Terrible

It's completely shocking that HBO and have an app that so completely terrible. Three out of four times the Apple never connect to your chrome cast which is what I primarily use it for, and the other one fourth of the time it takes forever to load once it finally gets connected. I run into this issue whether or use my phone or my computer to stream to the Chromecast. Even without streaming the website itself to use HBO go is very slow and laggy. The worst of it all is that you have to go through this process if you want to watch shows on HBO since they don't put them onto Netflix or other video sharing sites. For now I guess I'll just have to push through in order to watch my shows but I definitely won't recommend HBO go to anybody to use.
