Mindfulness is Magic!!
I have 'practiced' my own form of meditation off and on for years, but this app has truly transformed my ability to actually create a real habit of not just meditation, but actual mindfulness. The guided 'journey' provides an astounding foundation of understanding and experience to help anyone clear a cluttered mind, reduce anxiety and stress, and to be more present in the very moment we find ourselves in. It's transformative reach will go as far as we are willing to act upon. Just like any workout, the benefits lay in our self-discipline of actually "doing" it. The more you DO, the more you see RESULTS. This app provides a simple, intuitive and easy approach towards attaining the best possible you- in life, in work, in relationships.. And every other present moment you gain from here on out. A more mindful YOU means a better you in everything you do.
Exactly what I was looking for
Looking for a realistic alternative to amphetamines (Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.) for managing my ADHD hasn't been easy. Regular diet/exercise helped a little, as did a handful of supplements recommended by my naturopath, but I still felt like no matter what I was doing, I never felt present. was always dwelling on something from the past or preoccupied by something in the future.
Several friends, as well as my ADHD Doc. recommended trying mindfulness and guided meditation, but as you may know, there's so many resources out there, it's nearly impossible for a total noob to
A. find something aimed at absolute beginners and
B. find something that's actually good (in terms of content and production value)
This app more than suited my criteria on both fronts. The narrator's voice is calm and soothing. The sessions are long enough to test your attention span, but short enough for even the most chronic ADHD sufferer to handle (nothing is so boring that you can't handle it for 10min right?).
All this to say, this app is highly polished and extremely approachable, even for someone like me who literally knew nothing about guided meditation going in. I highly recommend it, particularly if you're coming into meditation as an absolute beginner as I did.
A new habit
I had been meditating on and off for years. Usually with the goal of doing it for at least 5 minutes a day; often feeling guilty when I failed to be consistent. Then last month an article in the New York Times mentioned the Headspace app, I tried it and this morning, I finished the 30 day foundation course. Yes, I do feel calmer and less impatient. And as someone who has struggled with focusing and listening since high school, I feel confident that that will improve with my new habit. I've turned this practice into a habit!
I LOVE YOU ANDY! You have no idea what this means to me. It's a personal victory and a greater one for those around me. I now meditate for 15 minutes a day right after coffee—I can't imagine doing it any less. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And keep up the good work!
