What's New in Version 3.10.0
'Twas the night before the release, when all through HQ
Not a coder was stirring, not even Phu;
The stockings were hung by the whiteboard with care,
In hopes that the release captain soon would be there;
The engineers were nestled all snug at their desks;
While visions of XCode danced in their heads.
Before all the engineers dozed off though, they launched our brand new Sleep Sounds, a new Alone Time single and moved our End of Day single from the Goodnight category to the Unwind category. You can find all of them under the Singles tab on the Discover screen.
NEW SLEEP SOUNDS
Your body's ready for bed, but is your mind? Let light, ambient sounds help you find a place of rest.
Ease the mind into a restful night's sleep with these deep, ambient tones.
- Alone Time
Take the opportunity to be alone for a few moments and allow yourself to unwind.
As always, if you run into any troubles, let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org
Try the 30 day Anxiety course- it’s excellent... it helps to consciously reduce stressful ruminating internal dialogue.
Real deal meditation, with none of the New Agedness, cultishness, or contemporary pop psychology that litters the competition. No obnoxious “soothing” music or crutch scenery to take up GB of memory and for you to grow dependent upon for grounding. The instructor is male, with an easygoing, mellow voice.
I used to be a Calm premium subscriber, and left after over a year due to many problems. Subscribers had started to get cult-like in a very creepy way after shifting focus to promoting Tamara Levitt instead of meditation. Check their Facebook page, and you’ll see it... it’s more intense than Harry Potter fandom. Snappy, passive aggressive support. Prices kept getting jacked geometrically at renewal time, and the content changed from hodgepodge New Age or Yoga inspired to all Tamara, all the time, and a huge pressure to do the Daily Calm, which was not only where the cult vibe was being cultivated, it also snuffed the desire to do any of the other, more effective, programs. I had to get out- it was killing my urgently needed practice.
I came to Headspace under recommendation, and it’s got everything I’d wished for that Calm didn’t have, and none of the creepiness. Setting into a daily meditation practice is easy and natural, and adding the daily meditation on top your longer term retreat-like module doesn’t take away its efficacy.
Love meditating, but the app is glitchy and data mines.
I absolutely love the sessions, the principles and philosophy behind the meditation exercises in this app. It’s varied, with nearly limitless options. The classes are informative and do an AMAZING job at teaching mindfulness and meditation practices.
But here’s the downsides...
The daily check-ins feel like data mining. The questions asked are fairly personal and stored on the app’s server. Not a fan, especially once I saw that Headspace had jobs open on their website for data mining engineers to do specifically that. Thankfully, the check-ins can be disabled.
Also, found a bug exploit. If you meditate after midnight one night, and meditate in the morning the following day, your streak will increase by an extra day. For example, I’ve been mediating for 40 straight days, but the past week or so, I’ve been meditating after midnight and after I wake. The app is telling me it’s 52 days.
Lastly, I’ve had to delete the app a few times after it would get “stuck” on a certain day, like the servers were not operating. Makes it tough when the app suggests mediating at the same time every day, but isn’t always operational when you want to use it. The latest update seemed to have fixed that bug, though.
Meditations inaccessible without wi-fi
This is a great application. Guided meditations are good. 1. It does auto-renew without asking, expect a charge when it expires. I don't like that. I would not have renewed. 2. The reason I would not have renewed is because it can only be used if you are online. It downloads EACH meditation when you begin. Sometimes this takes a minute. I guess they are worried you wilI try to use the meditations without paying for them. Apparently, the ones you already listened to undownload, making them inaccessible too. I often am not in a place with wifi. If it is on your smart phone, you'll be fine but my headspace application is on an ipod. It sure does seem strange that the spiritual practice of meditation is dependent upon internet access.
