Description

The BEST Hearts game on the App Store!

This is the classic trick-taking game, clean and simple. In this card game, try to avoid the Hearts and the Queen of Spades, or take all of them to Shoot the Moon. How low can you score? On the Hard level of difficulty, Marie, Nikola and Albert are really, really smart! Don't worry, though, you can change their names and the difficulty.

FEATURES
- Different difficulty settings for players of all levels
- Options for choosing player names and rule variants
- Tracks number of games played and won
- Play as much as you like with no ads
- Supports full screen and retina display
- Play while listening to music (or podcasts) with other apps

HOW TO PLAY
1. Each hand begins with choosing 3 cards to pass to another player (every 4th hand there is no passing).
2. Each hand, the player with the 2 of Clubs must use it to lead the first trick.
3. The other players must play a card of the suit that was led if possible.
4. The player who played the highest card (Aces are high) of the suit led takes that trick and leads the next.
5. Hearts cannot be led unless (A) a Heart was already played (Hearts Broken), OR (B) there is no alternative.
6. When no cards remain, players are awarded points according to the cards in the tricks taken.
7. Each Heart is worth 1 point and the Queen of Spades is worth 13 points.
8. A player who takes all 26 points (Shot the Moon) scores 0 points while the other 3 players get 26 points each.
9. After the points have been added, a new hand begins. This continues until a player has reached 100 points.
10. The player with the lowest score at the end of the game is the winner.

WARNING
This game can be very addictive. If you play for long periods of time, move your body position on a regular basis to reduce the risk of injury. Enjoy responsibly!

Almost Perfect

This updates my review of Hearts by NeverBored Studios, changing the rating from 4 Stars to 5 Stars. Because it was not quite perfect, I rated it 4 Stars. Now, after playing this game hundreds of times and finding it still to be fun, I realize that considering its low price, it gave me much more than my money's worth of entertainment. This boosts it to a 5 Star rating. Here is my earlier review:

I enjoy playing Hearts on my MacBook. I was not able to play the version of it that I had earlier because the other company did not update its game for Apple's newest operating systems. This version that I gave a 4 Star rating to could not be played at first because some of the game's screen was hidden from me. I solved this problem by going to System Settings and moving my Dock from the bottom of my screen to the left hand side of my screen. After doing this, the game was playable and enjoyable. I sent this feedback to the company, NeverBored Studios, and they were very responsive with their reply. Now that you know, from this review, how to correct a possible problem, I guess you would enjoy this game. I like it. This game of Hearts certainly is a very good value for its low price.

Enjoyable hearts card game

I really like this hearts card game. I have another version of hearts which is also good but for some reason I was having issues with it which I couldn’t figure out so I purchased this hearts game and I’m totally pleased with it. I have a Mac and I do seem to have a minor issue with my mouse clicking on the cards. Most of the time, I have to click twice before I can get the card to move. Sort of like a delayed reaction from my mouse, but I’m assuming it’s not an issue with the game itself but from my mouse. Other than that, it’s a fun version of hearts and I’m now playing this one more than the other one I have (issue on that one resolved itself). The players play intelligently, which makes the game more of a challenge. The only negative I can say is I wish the score showed all the time rather than having to hit the “view scores” tab each time. Other than that, it’s a great version of Hearts.

Passing cards needs revamping

(1) Why low spades are passed is beyond me. No one that is a winner passes low spades. Even if you are attempting to shoot the moon, passing of low spades is just a give away of one’s intetnions. I’ve found that when your algorithms pass me low spades, the one passing them is NOT attempting to shoot the moon. I’ve four different applications of HEARTS and none of the others pass small spades. (2) Also, when cards are passed those being received are not on display very long. I should have some time to recognize what was passed and assmilate a strategy as to why they were passed to me. Hold the passed cards to be distinctive until I play my first card on the two of clubs. (3) It would be nice to see both the running scores and the hand scores throughout the game. I dislike having to go to a separate page to see if a heart has been played yet. For some of us that are older our retention is concerning.
