Very good

I've always like Henle scores in print. The app brings a growing library of them to the iPad. Much more convenient than carrying several books around, no worry of wear and tear on physical scores. The new addition of set lists is very helpful if you have a large library and want to organize them by performance or current literature.

I can't speak to the Apple Pencil, as I don't use it, and rarely heavily mark my scores. The occasional fingering, articulation, or dynamic I add, I have no issues.

I did have a question for their customer service department, and they were quick to respond, helpful and friendly.

I'd of course love to see their entire catalogue available at once, but they do add to their catalogue regularly and are receptive to customer requests for pieces to be added.

Why won’t my scores re-download??

I can’t access my scores when logged into my new iPad. Every time i click the icon to re-download purchased scores, it just highlights the icon with a square and doesn’t do anything 😡😡😡

Developer Response

We are sorry about the inconvenience! This is an error that sometimes appears when the app is restored on a new iPad. Could you please delete the app from your device and then reinstall it from the App Store? You should then be able to download all of your scores again!

Great scores; poor notation tools

5 stars for the scores themselves - the scholarly editions are indispensable for anybody who is serious about music study. I like that I can buy either a collection or just one piece from a collection, and it's much more portable and immediately available than paper scores.

However, the reason I can only give three stars is because I find myself not using the app as much as I want to for actual practice & learning because I would give it 1 star for its notational capabilities. It's very difficult to write anything legibly with the Apple Pencil, and barely better using a finger. Part of this is because of the way that it logs individual strokes as separate "boxes" ... part of it is because you can only notate in the score by zooming in to a particular section. This makes it very difficult to make notes on a larger section. This doesn't seem like a problem that should exist! I find myself using ForScore for most of my scores because it's so easy to take notes in there. It's also really easy to use Apple Pencil with a lot of note-taking apps like Nebo, OneNote, etc., so I don't know why this issue hasn't been addressed.

I hope you address this in a future update! I really want to use the Henle app for my work but I NEED to be able to write in the score more easily.
