Very well done
Update: Now that the iPhone 5 has been out for a year, it's shameful that HP has not bothered to do an update. So much wasted screen space. And the poorly implemented clicking is starting to bother me and my coworkers. Otherwise...
A great app to have on the iPhone when I don't have my 15C LE with me. HP doesn't mention it in the description, but the app uses razor sharp Retina images. The portrait-mode with the big buttons is a nice touch and suitable for most of my calculating needs. The full landscape mode, although small, is nearly as easy to use. I feel fortunate not to be disturbed by
the key-click sound, although I agree that folks that don't like it should be able to turn it off from within the app. I really appreciate the manual being accessible from the app. I have tried 2 other 11C/15C iPhone apps, but they don't have the attention to detail that HP has put into this. Pricey by app standards, but cheap by quality calculator standards. Highly recommended.
We need an iOS compatible upgrades from HP soon!!
I've used HP calculators most of my life, since my first HP67 in 1980. I still have it. I have many others: 34C, 11C, 12C, 15C, 41CV, 48GX. No other calculator type, has ever surpassed the HP family. EVER. I prefer to use the real ones only occasionally now, because there are no more replacement parts.
However, The emulators for the iPhone are so nice to have and I use them regularly, and they're all in my pocket on the iPhone 6s+. Phone size is about the actual size of the real machines too. I love em.
HP needs to update the 12 and 15 soon though. Apple says they are not compatible with future versions of iOS. Other developers are keeping up with their HP emulators, some of which are very nice.
I think HP would have a profitable business unit if they took seriously bringing these great little computing machines back to life in the whole family of reasonably priced emulators.
However, for now, is be grateful if they would just ensure their existing emulators are compatible with future iOS versions.
Work-around for iOS9 glitch. This affects both the HP 12C and HP 15C emulators. The problem: When upgrading from iOS8 to iOS9, the "rotating" feature of both apps is no longer supported. Symptom: With default settings, both emulators are locked in "portrait" mode, which produces the "four function calculator" that others have complained about. The fix: Go to iPhone "Settings" and look for the HP 12C or HP 15C. Default settings include "Landscape Lock" set to ON. Set "Landscape Lock" to OFF. This will restore full functionality of the HP 12C and HP 15C calculators. Unintended consequence of this fix: Loss of the "four function calculator" that HP provided for portrait mode.
