HeyTell® is a cross-platform voice messenger that allows you to instantly talk with friends and family. No account needed—just start the app, choose a contact, and push the button to start talking!
- Send and receive voice messages with other HeyTell users with the press of a single button
- Voice messages are quicker than SMS—and free!
- Very low data usage, no more than sending an email
- PUSH NOTIFICATIONS alert you whenever a voice message is received and the app is closed
- NEW: Apple Watch support for sending texts through HeyTell
* TIP: If you did not enable Pushes on initial install, open the Apple Settings app, select Notifications, ensure it's set to On, select HeyTell, and ensure that Badges and Alerts are both set to On.
- Works on 3G, 4G, EDGE, 1X or WiFi (i.e., any Internet connection)
- Superior audio quality: At 16 kHz, HeyTell delivers twice the frequency range of a cell phone call
- Favorites: Favorite and export messages you like to email or Facebook!
- Export messages you record to Facebook, Twitter, Email, and more!
- Extras: Use the in-app purchase function to set alert tones, send messages to groups, change your voice, automatically expire and batch-delete messages, and add emojis to your name!
- Quickly friend, unfriend, or block contacts. Adding contacts as friends ensures that you can always quickly find them by tapping the To: field and tapping "Friends."
- Choose from three different privacy levels to control how users can contact you without an invite:
+ Low Privacy: Anyone who knows your contact information can connect with you without an invite.
+ Medium Privacy: Anyone who knows your contact information and is friends with one of your HeyTell friends can connect with you. Otherwise, they must invite you to connect.
+ High Privacy: No one can connect with you until you accept their invitation.
NOTE: Carriers may charge you & your recipient for SMS invites, but email invites & Low privacy direct connections should be free.
- If you want to, share your location with selected contacts while you talk
* TIP: To send your location information to a contact, you must have the Maps page open (tap the Target button) when you send the HeyTell message. For privacy reasons, HeyTell does not send your location unless you approve and have Maps open.
- Conversations can be saved and replayed offline, or deleted on-demand
* TIP: Swipe left or right on the conversation and click the DELETE button to delete messages.
- All data and audio you transmit to HeyTell and your friends is encrypted in transit
- Earpiece and speakerphone functionality: Press the SPEAKER button to toggle earpiece vs. speakerphone mode (If you find earpiece sound is too low, enable the speaker)
- Supports iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices (2G and 3G iPod Touches require external microphone)
- You do not need to share personal information to connect with HeyTell contacts. See http://heytell.com/privacy and http://heytell.com/faq for more information about connecting without sharing phone numbers or email addresses!
Use HeyTell as a walkie talkie, intercom, or instant voice messaging system to send quick voice messages to friends and family with iPhones or iPods. Use the integrated geolocation feature to find your friends when they've given you bad directions and you're just around the corner!

What’s New
Version History
3.4.1
Some iOS 9.2.1 users are reporting crashes, this is an attempted fix. Please contact support at support@heytell.com if you experience additional crashes.
Also, some users were seeing an "Options" button when receiving notifications, this removes it.
Thanks for using HeyTell!
3.4.0
NEW Apple Watch app: You can send and receive voice messages with your Apple Watch, even if you're away from your phone! (Requires iOS 9 and watchOS 2)
3.3.0
TEXTING! Long-press on a contact, then type your message or tap a canned message to send. Text messages show up in notifications and are not saved in the app.
Apple Watch support! Dictate a text message with your voice or select a canned message. When a user sends you their location, the map shows up right in the watch notification! (Also, if you go to the context menu, you can play a little Blackjack!)
You can also now invite people right from the Friends tab! Click the "+" then type in an email address or phone number to find your friend.
3.2.5
Facebook no longer allows us to invite your Facebook friends who do not yet have the app. You can still talk to existing friends and invite new friends via email, SMS, or Twitter.
Also implemented a workaround to prevent Verizon from injecting unwanted tracking cookies in the app's notification traffic.
3.2.4
Fixes an issue where speaker mode does not stay selected when HeyTell is fully restarted from App Switcher.
Fixes email and text invite issue, where sending an invite exited the dialog but did not send.
3.2.3
- Fixed an issue where speaker mode did not reliably switch on iOS 8.
- Fixed a bug where exporting a message to Facebook did not work.
3.2.2
- iOS 8 support - The Groups Extra now supports up to 100 members - Updated HeyTell Privacy Policy (http://www.heytell.com/privacy)
3.2.1
We added an optional "Beep When Recording" option that plays a tone when you start and stop recording! To activate the beep, open the Settings app and then tap HeyTell (you'll find the Bluetooth and Pause Background Music options there, too!).
We fixed a bug that prevented some users from leaving an app review.
3.2.0
- We've updated the UI for iOS 7.
- HeyTell now detects and alerts when the microphone is disabled due to privacy settings in iOS 7.
- HeyTell now stops background music when the app is started on iOS 7. This behavior can be changed in Settings > HeyTell
3.1.2
- Updated Twitter API and Facebook SDK.
- Fixed bugs.
3.1.1
- You can now unfriend or block a contact in your friends list even if they are not in the Recent Conversations list.
- In iOS 6, Ringtones and vibration now work correctly when the app is open.
- In iOS 6, the first user in the Ringtones list can now be assigned a ringtone.
- When using VoiceOver mode in iOS 6, the number of unread messages is included in the Group description.
3.1.0
3.1:
* The Ringtones Extra has 5 new ringtones.
* The Groups Extra now allows up to 50 members.
* HeyTell now supports iOS 6 and iPhone 5.
* In previous versions, friends were retained across app reinstalls, but groups weren't. As of 3.1, your groups should also be retained when you reinstall.
3.0:
* You can now optionally sign onto Twitter or Facebook to easily connect to HeyTell friends:
- Low privacy: All Facebook friends can HeyTell you. Any of your Twitter followers can HeyTell you. Anyone who knows your phone number or email address can HeyTell you.
- Medium privacy: All Facebook friends can HeyTell you. All Twitter friends can talk to you. Friends of your HeyTell friends who know your phone number or email address can HeyTell you.
- High privacy: No one can contact you unless you contact them first or unless you accept their Twitter, Facebook, email, or SMS invite.
* Redesigned Profile page:
- You can now see exactly which contact info is shared and how friends can contact you. HeyTell does not collect your social network friends list on its systems--they appear in your app only. HeyTell does save your Twitter or Facebook handle so that friends can find you if you use Low or Medium privacy. If you use High privacy, HeyTell does not permanently store any social network handles, email addresses, or phone numbers.
- You no longer need to select an Address Book contact to change your name - just tap your name on the Profile page to update!
* Added Polish translation - many, many thanks to Pawel Masarczyk for contributing the translation!
* Your HeyTell Friends list (tap the green and white Select a Contact button or tap inside the To: field) now lists friends in two categories: Active Recently and Not Active Recently so that you can more quickly select your contacts with a bit less scrolling!
* Your identity now has a green circled star icon so that you know you're talking to yourself! (Not such a bad thing, you can then post your notes to self to Twitter and Facebook via Actions > Share Online!)
3.0.3

Improved performance of incoming message notifications when the app is open.

* Minor updates to Danish localization (many thanks to Dennis Eriksen)!
2.3.1:
* New languages: Chinese (Simplified), Danish, Russian, Swedish. Many, many thanks go out to both Jonas Bohdén for providing the Swedish translation and to Dennis Eriksen for providing the Danish translation!
* Bluetooth support: You can now listen to and record messages when using a Bluetooth headset. To enable Bluetooth, open the Settings app, scroll down to HeyTell, expand it, and toggle the Bluetooth slider to "On."
* Fixed stutter and beep where, in iOS 5.0, if you're using ringtones and the app is open, you'd have to wait for the vibration for the notification tone to buzz when a message arrives. Buzz and ring should now occur simultaneously.
* Emoji sounds and in-app purchase chimes now work in iOS 5
* Updated audio player used for Facebook export
* In iOS 5, native Twitter client is used for message export (expand the conversation, select the message, tap the Actions button, then tap Share Online).
* Resolved issue where, when running some podcasting apps, HeyTell messages don't play fully. Audio now ducks the way it does for the music player. To play music while HeyTell is running, plug headphones or speakers into the device and then, inside HeyTell, toggle the speaker button to earpiece mode, then open your music player/podcasting app. You should now be able to open HeyTell and the music player will continue.

2.2
New features:

✳ When using a public relay, you can select users to talk to or to add as friends by long pressing in the message list view (iOS 4.x and higher only, not supported for iOS 3.x).
✳ Due to the possibility of high traffic from public relays, messages received from a public relay do not auto-play unless selected.
✳ Group messages now have a 1 second minimum to avoid accidental transmissions.
✳ Timestamps now appear on location markers if the location marker is out-of-date.
✳ Have added a new friend state: Unfriend. This removes a friend from your Friends list, but does not block them.
✳ Can now stop messages from playing inside the message list view by tapping again.
✳ Messages are now highlighted when selected in the message list view.
✳ New graphic used for unread messages
Server changes:
✳ When you send your location using the Maps page, your recipient will see a location description in their Push notification.
✳ Message chime when an accepted invitation creates new friends.
Bug fixes:
✳ Number of unread messages now read in VoiceOver mode
✳ Fixed issue where ads sometimes continued to appear after a purchase until app was restarted.
✳ Fixed issue where adding a group member without adding a group name would not allow users to add a new group until backing out and back into the group.
✳ Message expansion now renders as a slide.
✳ No longer stacks up network unavailable messages if connectivity errors occur. Only one error and one return to normal message should appear.
✳ No longer displays an "invitation sent" confirmation when invites are cancelled.
✳ Fixed audio volume issues after the initial beep.

- Added higher resolution graphics for iPhone 4.
- Resolved an issue where contacts would disappear after a Low Memory Warning received on the device.
- Includes miscellaneous bug fixes and resolves field-reported crashes.

Awesome. Makes talkin with pals so much fun.
We love it. My group of pals are spread across the country and are in our late 30s and early 40s. We stay in touch almost exclusively thru Heytell (in chipmunk voices). We all wish that a setting could be enabled so that we could capture and keep our favorite heytells of each other to save or send to others. It may be a privacy issue, but surely it can be made to be adjusted so that the message creator can allow his or her messages to be shared by others. It also crashes constantly on the iPhone now. Can we get help with our favorite app please? We use it all the time and don't mind paying! I'd pictures could be sent it would be awesome. My group toggles back and forth from Heytell to FB messenger to get the features of both. Thanks for the great APP! Please fix the crashes on iOS?!

Good, needs work
He app itself functions well for me, i wish it blocked text notifications while recording though. Thats annoying as can be.
The major issue, what you brings you down more then a star for me is the notification menu. You have a close button and an options button. If you hit close, okay its done. But you hit options and you hit open or listen and it opens the app and then theres a close button again. This is a ridiculous design. Why not just have an open and close button. No options needed? The only reason to have options is if you can actually listen right from the notification and not open the app.
This update did NOT fix the notification/options issue

Like it.
This is a really good app for something in between a phone call a text message because it’s slightly more personal than texting but doesn’t distract you like a phone call, especially if you’re driving. The only thing is, you need to get rid of the time limit. I hate when it cuts me off midsentence and I can’t continue until the listener checks their messages. Can you just make it unlimited speaking in one of your further updates?
