Hidden Mysteries: Royal Family Secrets by Lynxminx

This game was very good and had very clear graphics, as well as a good mix of HO and puzzles. I do not know why some people complained about the lack of instructions for the mini-games/puzzles! If you play these games often enough you should be smart enough to figure them out! I was able to do all of them without one single skip! It shows that these games really sharpen the brain! The first of these Hidden Mysteries I ever played was 3 years ago on my DS, and at the time I was unable to figure out the puzzles! So keep trying and don't give up! Thank goodness there was a map as there was a lot of non-linear game play. It would have been great if the map was the teleporting type! One good thing they had was that inventory was labeled, and the map showed where actions were available without giving anything away. Also no huge scary RATS(you all know me by now!) My chief complaint is that the game was way too short and didn't have any bonus gameplay. Please try to give us a little more for our money! However this game was fun to play!

So Close

This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Each and every panel is a work of moving art - and for that alone, the game is worth playing. Middle ages England is my area of study so it was terrific to see the artists renditions of places I've read so much about. BUT - if ever a game needed a teleportation map, this is it. There is no strategy guide and the hint button takes a long 60 seconds to recharge. And (I realize that this is trivial) their choice of sounds wasn't great. When you find something in a hidden object panel - it sounds like Janet Leigh being murdered in "Psycho", it made me want to run away. As a scholar, I'm really starting to resent the Bard's version of Richard III. If you do the research you'll find varying opinions. Oh, and I agree with those who say there should be some instruction on the mini-games. That being is a beautiful game and, in my opinion, worth appreciating and playing. I call it "just plain fun" when you have to poison someone who's already dead!

Big FLAWS but, I REALLY liked this game

I almost didn't buy, after all the negative reviews, so I feel compelled to defend the game. It is a very clever logic game, its mostly a puzzle adventure, with the occasional hidden object mini game. There is a lot of back and forth walking, and really they didn't make a good HELP system; so if you get stuck you need to go on the internet and find a "walk-through" for help. The mini games have no directions, come on seriously??? That is a huge flaw. Also, the "sparkles" only come on briefly when pressed and they do not point out all of the hidden objects you need to find. Lastly, it is a decent length for $3.99, however I would NOT pay full price. In general, I think big fish is robbing us all blind! $0.99 is plenty since most of us play the game once to completion, not over and over again.
