Fun, But Where Were the Vampires?
In the end the player gets an idea of a certain vampire being present (not a spoiler, don't worry), but throughout the rest I kept wondering when the blood-sucking would begin.
I like Claire, and would be keen to see a sequel. Great cut-scenes, puzzles mostly smooth-sailing--not easy but not too terribly maddening, either--nice graphics, better-than-decent voice acting. HO scenes are not full-screen (someone else mentioned this earlier) though I wish they had been! It was also odd for me to see the main character sort of animated outside a frame; I believe this might be standard in some HO games, however. I am a third-person adventure-gamer at heart, and adore character development, so it's grand to see the ladies and gents in the game in action as much as possible!
This is BEGGING for a sequel. Please? Thank you, developers and distributors. :)
Pretty Good HOG
Okay, so this isn't the most elaborate HOG Big Fish has developed, but I thought it was pretty okay for the price. Contrary to the reviewer who said there is no zoom, there IS a zoom for the hidden object scenes. I didn't find the scenes overly dark, and had no problem with crashes or any other glitches. There is no real help other than for finding hidden objects, but the game isn't all that terribly challenging, so I got through it with minimal frustration. The story line is goofy, to be sure, but that's true of many of these games. All in all, if you like HOGs this is just fine.
Where's the story?
It started out in an intriguing manner -- Claire having visions that give her migraines. Once she travels to her aunt's house in Savannah, she's on the trail of something sinister.
Yet, as she moves from location to location via her visions, she finds out precious little about any vampires or evil forces attacking the city. You solve all the puzzles and HOGs, but the story has advanced about one inch!
Claire went into her visions, but sure didn't solve any great mystery or uncover much of anything.
If you just like to play HOGs and work on puzzles, this one is for you. If you want an actual story, look elsewhere!
