December 2018, no problems so far. Seems to be the most professional icon hider.
As a developer I get annoyed at utiliy software, which is flakey.
This does SEEM to be the most reasonably professional, solid, icon hider, of those available.
It seems to have been updated recently (writing Dec. 2018).
Don't buy any software, which has not been updated for a long time.
It would appear from the old reviews that the early versions of this utility a few years ago were rubbish, but, it does seem to be solid now.
After trying it I did buy the "pro" version which works on all monitors.
If you do use Apple stuff like: Mission Control, Spaces, complicated background image switching etc: There seems to be some reports that this app does not play well with those things. Spaces, MissionControl etc. are garbage that Apple should remove and pretend never happened: it would be very difficult to get icon-hiding working perfectly with that rubbish, so, I guess if you do use that stuff, try the free version of this utility first to make sure you're OK.
If you have not used an icon-hider before, it's a must.
I used to use the utility "Clean Slate" in the old days, but it has gone away.
"Hidden Me" does appear to be the most solid icon-hider currently available. If any bugs show up, I'll change this review immediately.
Does what it says
Thanks to HiddenMe, I now have a clean desktop anytime I want. To see my folders, I simply click on the HiddenMe icon in the menu bar and everthing reappears on my desktop. Very functional and easy to use. I have encountered a problem though: When I have the stuff on my desktop hidden (that is, when HiddenMe is active), my wallpaper refuses to change, and it begins to tamper with the wallpaper on my other desktops. Maybe there’s a way around it, but I'd caution anybody who likes to use the "change picture” option (in System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver) to skip this app. As long as I do’t have the "change picture" option selected, however, HiddenMe works fine.
Not the same as moving files (it remembers the layout)
Another reviewer claims that you can just move the files from Desktop to another folder to do the same thing. That’s not really true. This app makes the desktop icons disapear, but when you make them visible again, THEY’RE IN THE SAME PLACE! If you move you icons to another folder then move them back, everything will move around. I organize my desktop so that I can find things on it, and having the icons move around would be unacceptable to me. This app solves that problem nicely.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
