Type Egyptian Hieroglyphs on a QWERTY keyboard then email the results
The Hieroglyphic Typewriter incorporates the alphabet and number symbols together with a selection of determinative signs. It is designed as a fun entertainment app, so for ease of use the QWERTY keyboard includes close phonetic alternative glyphs for E, U V and X (which the Egyptians did not use). This allows you to quickly write names and short secret messages encoded in hieroglyphs and you can send the results by email. The recipient will receive a crib sheet to help translate your message and they can also print it.
The keys include Latin alphabet symbols together with their hieroglyph equivalents and descriptions, which allows you to type messages naturally and at a glance see the translations.
The shift key changes the keyboard giving access to number glyphs, a selection of words and some determinative signs which you can use to elaborate your messages.
The help section gives a basic understanding of Hieroglyphic writing and examples of how to write names.
Ratings and Reviews
Imperfect...a major disappointment
Strictly amateurish and for those w/ a lot of time to kill. The app is missing the Ankh symbol (eternal life) among others. If you want a more inclusive version, the creators of this app offer one for £15 or $23 more! Not sure if that upgrade even gets you a smart phone app upgrade. The keyboard here is also a pain as it does not spread out to landscape when turned sideways. I see no reason to recommend this app. It was free. You get exactly what you paid for...nothing. Zero stars, to be truthful.
My only complaint is I can't save my sentence to my photo library
Not very functional.
The glyphs are correct, but the keyboard is annoying to use and the screen doesn't tilt. Also, it is missing quite a few symbols.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
