Customer Reviews

Cool App, but needs a little work.

This is a great app with wonderful potential, but it seems to have limited info still and needs a little more work to get some kinks out.

I tried to submit a place, but the process was very buggy. I had to flip back and forth between a web browser, note pad and History Here to get all the info typed in and it would sometimes crash between switches before I could get all the info loaded. In addition, it kept reverting the location to my address rather than the one I was typing in, even though I never hit the "use my current location" button. It would not allow me to paste anything into the "historical significance" field, but I finally figured out that it was because my description had a return in it and the field must not accept a return character. Once I made it one long, giant paragraph, I was able to paste. Otherwise, it seems to be a nice app and I think I'll have fun exploring.

New places with questionable history, but missing historical places

I live in a somewhat historical city, with Civil War and American Revolution places and a deep background. As I sit here looking around on my area map I find very few thumbtacks, with a lot of missing ones but oddly there are thumbtacks for a racetrack. Yeah the racetrack is important to locals and tourists but there is nothing historical about it. There are other useless thumbtacks too of new locations with questionable historical relevance. Just because a museum (which focuses on modern art) has a few old pieces doesn't make it historical. The app should have been populated First with the historical markers database and buildings of historical significance listed in the National Trust for Historic Preservation, plus battlefields and plantations...then go from there. Modern sports facilities - they don't matter.

Love it!

I've lived in the middle of nowhere my whole life in a place where history happened in other, more exciting places. There's not a whole lot for my area, but it was a nice surprise to see that there was something that connected the places I know to real history—people I'd actually been taught about.

It's also nice that it isn't location dependent like other apps I've used. While it pulls up what's around you, you can also search other places, or tell it to surprise you with something random. Great app!
