Depth editor black pixel bug fixed.
I saw a video of someone using this app to make Street Fighter scenes in 3D. The results were jaw dropping! I immediately bought the app and tried it for myself. It took some trial and error as well as some careful masking but my own Street Fighter scene looked great! The app comes with holo pics and several (sometimes customizable) games. I was most impressed with holo pics because I can do my own 3D scenes from my photos. The developer allowed for good tools to make the process approachable but they can be better still. I am hoping for undos and/or a way to save off your modified depth/alpha maps so that I can experiment without risking ruining my work-in-progress images. The ability to import alpha maps would be a big plus too. Aside from this, the other minigames are good distractions and cool tech demos. It would be awesome if those can be elaborated upon to make them deeper. All in all, I am very happy with my purhcase and I can't wait to see what improvements the developer can add to the next release!
Could be improved
The interface is confusing. It took me 3 minutes to find the correct way to create a new holo image, and there's a bunch of experiments in the app that make it feel inconsistent. It would be better if it did less, but did it better.
For instance, it's hard to do detailed work on your depth map because you can't zoom into the image. Additionally, the program could use edge detection to automatically tighten up your strokes to follow the contour of an object. Finally, it would be nice to be able to adjust the scale of the depth plains, or at least adjust the view position, so that the background image can take up the entire background.
This is a fun toy. The Samples are interesting, but the custom holopics are what make this something I play with a lot. Anyone who reviews this app poorly probably didn't put very much time or effort into this feature. If you play with the depth editors, especially using barely contrasting shades to start out, you can really make some amazing looking pics. It takes some patience and ingenuity in it's current form, but (*Note to developers) with the addition of an UNDO feature and the ability to ZOOM into depth maps this would be a five star app that I would recommend to anyone.
