The official Home Front Command Application is for alerts, instructions, and explanations for live updates during times of routine and times of emergency.
The Home Front Command alert systems are selective, activating the siren only in areas in which the civilian population is in danger.
The Home Front Command provides the alert to all citizens according to the time available to him, wherever he is, in a variety of ways:
Sirens – Especially for people outside, the duration of the siren is equal to the amount of time one has to enter a shelter.
Additional means: Television, internet, radio, and currently also cellular device.
In addition to the alert, the application provides users with continuous updates and instructions during routine and emergency with the understanding that information and early preparation saves lives.
Immediately – Live, simultaneously alerts through all means of alert in the Home Front Command.
Relevance – Alert, according to location and relevant areas, life-saving instructions in Hebrew, Arabic, English, and Russian languages.
Credibility – The origin of the alert and instruction is from the Home Front Command as the trustworthy, legal authority on the subject in the State of Israel.
Prepared in Routine – Protected in Emergency!

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background might dramatically decrease battery life.
HFC Alert service will use the minimum resources needed to supply an accurate location based messaging.

Unpointed Hebrew Interface

There’s one reason for three-stars with an otherwise useful app.

Even in the U.S. on a U.S.-registered iPhone, this app defaults to displaying everything in unpointed Hebrew. I couldn’t find a way around that and got lost in a maze of messages I could not read.

I’d suggest that the developers have the app start the first time by asking the user’s language and save that as a default. Non-Hebrew-speaking visitors to Israel will find this app useful, but only if they could use it in a language they understand.

To set your app in English

When opening the app for the 1st time, click the button at the bottom of the screen or the little "x" in black. Once you see the menu icon on the top right, click on the "gear" icon then choose the 2nd menu and change the language to English. Hope this helps.

Non-Hebrew speaker/reader

I want to use this app since we travel frequently to Israel but without being able to read Hebrew, I can’t read the menu in order to get to the proper page to change the language to English. A “button” on the very first opening screen when a user clicks on the app for the first time with the American or UK flag icon would be extremely helpful!
