Ratings and Reviews
I've used Hoopla on many e-books and audibles for well over a year and never had any real problems until I started reading books in a couple of series. The first series book went fine but in the second, some of the pages had black "blocks" on them or some scattered black "pixels." Then pages wouldn't turn. If I closed/relaunched the app, sometimes it would "resume" to my last page and sometime it wouldn't. I've deleted/relaunched the app from the App Store over TWO dozen times and I can't get back to my last page. If I choose "chapter 18" from the index, it asks me if I want to open it, but nothing happens. Twice after reinstalling I have turned individual pages one at a time, trying to get back to chapter 18, but it's stopped at ch 13 and again, the page won't turn either way - my iPad is frozen on that page. My software's uptodate and now I'm wracking my brain, wondering if it might be something in these particular series of books - I'm so frustrated over these problems and the amount of time I've wasted trying to finish these books, I'm halfway ready to just say to hell with it and deal with the lingering frustrating curiosity over the missing chapters and endings of the books I can't read! Grrrr. Not happy.
Love this app! But would also love a few updates
I love hoopla and use it almost every day. Mostly I listen to audiobooks while I'm working, either at home or at my job. It's a great concept with lots of content and I love that it's free through the library! Very convenient to be able to download content straight to your phone. THANK YOU for adding lock screen cover art in the latest update, looks so much better. There are a couple other things that I think could be improved though.
I would love it if there was some way to make LISTS instead of just favorite items. I would like to be able to make a list of books I want to listen to, or movies I want to see, or favorite books in a certain genre, etc. Right now my list of favorites is a mixture of books I have previously borrowed and liked, and books that I have never listened to and want to remember for the future. It gets confusing sometimes.
It would also be really nice to be able to listen to a short sample, even just a minute or less, before you actually commit to borrowing it, especially because with audiobooks there are often several versions of the same book read by different narrators, and having a good narrator can really make or break the listening experience.
Get hoopla now!
I have always like audio books. I am a young girl, and I am dyslexic. I have always struggled with reading despite my best efforts. I eventually found out about audiobooks, and convinced my parents to get me a radio so that I could listen to the cds at the library. It helped so much, and I started making progress with my reading and reading comprehension. However, a radio would always lose my spot when I unplugged it to bring around the house with me, and I eventually ran out of books I liked to listen to. I can still recite most of the lines from Harry Potter from how often I listened to them. Anyways, one day, I was at the library, and I say a sing for hoopla. It was exactly what I needed. I downloaded it onto my phone, and fell in love with it. Hoopla’s free and easy to use. I listen to hoopla daily, and it’s a perfect way to read books while getting dressed, driving, or even just so you can follow along. You can even adjust the speed of the book depending on your reading level. If you are looking to have this for a child, you can put restrictions on. Since I got hoopla, I have also gotten Overdrive. I am so happy to have a site that has free audiobooks, and doesn’t even require WiFi.😁
