One big problem
The day-to-day work of the app is alright. There's some nit-picky problems, like it would be nice to see the dollar amount of your monthly pass progress, and it would be cool to pick a primary card if you have more than one card. It does update funds quickly though.
On that note, the biggest problem is that I had an issue with an address change for my debit card. Instead of getting an informative message (i.e.; "payment information does not match") I got a message saying the payment didn't process. That's fine, I thought there might have been a connection issue.
I mistakenly chose to click to order $50 several times in a row, and as it turns out it emptied my bank account. I'm really lucky that I had $2.50 in change because I would have been stuck downtown with no cash and an overdrawn bank account. Customer service just said "we don't have the money, but the bank will hold it for 3-5 days."
This is a serious problem that needs to be fixed, especially if TriMet intends on switching off of ticket methods entirely.
Always crashing and won’t even open
The idea of this app is a good one and I had hope in downloading it that it would be a helpful tool to use to be able to reload my hop card and that I would be able to use this app if I ever didn’t have my physical hop card with me. However, I shortly found out after downloading that the app won’t even open. When I go to open it there is like an opening screen for maybe 2 seconds and then it promptly crashes. This app could have potential but bugs like this need to be fixed. There’s not really any point to having this app if it doesn’t even work in the slightest
One of the worst contactless payments apps
And I worked in the business of contactless payments. First they con you into giving a credit card number to download the app. Second you have to join by creating an account. Third, you have to buy a card. Why this triple redundancy? (I cringe to think about the privacy violation and compromised security.). Boycott this app and let them die. How they conned Tri-Met into such a backwards app is a mystery. Obviously they have a lot to learn from simple, one-step contactless payments schemes in use around the world. I will stick with the competing 2D barcode app in the meantime. Deleting my account.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
