Balanced, clever strategy
This game is perfectly designed for mobile play. Strikes a nice balance between casual and more serious games. It's a turn-based dungeon crawler with randomly generated levels and light RPG elements. Games last from 5 to 20 minutes or maybe longer when you get good. In theory, you could keep going after you get the fleece, giving the game infinite replay-ability, but in practice I think it would get a little repetitive without meaningful secondary goals. I'll probably pick it up every once in a while just to see how far I can get. Can't really ask for more.
Fantastic and fair strategy game
If you're looking for an intense high stakes strategy game that rewards focus, mindfulness and patient tactical thinking then there's no better game I've come across than this one in my 35 years of living on this planet.
This is one of those rare games where every failure is the players fault. You'll die a lot in this game, but it's always because you were distracted, let your mind drift or were in a hurry.
Every move counts, like in chess. And like in chess, each victory is incredibly satisfying because the flip side of failure being your fault is that victory is always to your credit! Whatta game!!!
Elegant one-piece turn based strategy
Hoplite is a little bit like playing chess with one piece that you're able to upgrade slowly over the course of the game. The game balance is incredible - there are many different upgrades, and all of them are useful if you learn a good play styles to go with them. I've won a couple times now and keep playing because I enjoy challenging myself by trying out different builds that I haven't succeeded with yet. This has definitely been one of my most played games lately.
