In the summer of 2015 I went to Kosovo. I couldn't find any decent apps for Albanian. So I made one, and it turned out to really help me learn language and culture in a way I'd not experienced before.
Then I went to Italy. The biggest lesson I came away with: people very often don't use the words and phrases you get from language books!
By talking to locals, you can learn how THEY speak and capture both the words and audio to help you later.
It works with any language. By default How You Say is a blank slate, but we asked our international team to provide over 60 translations in 5 languages to get you started.
- Albanian (2 dialects)
Oh, and we also thought it would be fun to show you what more you could do by adding some phrases from:
- Teen English
- Toddler English
How You Say is your personal language journal. Get out there and talk to people where you are now. You'll love it.

Excited to quickly bring some improvements!
- Fixed an error when deleting translation cards. Sometimes the card you wanted to delete wasn't what we deleted. Yikes!
- Updated the Languages view with visibility icons to more clearly indicate you are turning visibility on or off
- Now displaying the Add button when searching for a phrase. We also seed the new term with what you were searching for.
More to come as we get feedback.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
