Eating Healthy On-the-Go
The app is definitely something that's unlike the rest of the dieting apps. I like that I can find out which dishes suit my dietary restrictions and where I can get them. It saves time, money, and frustration by allowing me to avoid going to places that are potentially outside of my diet. Loving the international option (I travel a lot, so this is really suitable). I especially like the community aspect - I can share my dishes/ideas/tips with others who will appreciate them. I like that I have access to people from across all diets and see what they are up to. This gives me a chance to possibly exlore other diet paradigms that I wouldn't have otherwise. What I would like to see in the app are cofee shops and drinks that I can incorporate into my diet. I'm a huge coffee fan, and it would help if that was somehow a part of it.
There are another couple of improvement suggestions. One is style - many of the images of the dishes are not actual images of the food at the restaurants. It would be nice to see, in addition to all other nutritional info, what the food actually looks like. Also, the recipes are not from the actual restaurants themselves but from TableTop, another source. I am not sure how true the nutritional info is to the dish at the restaurant given that the recipe is sourced from somewhere else. Great app, overall, however. I am still using it, even when not wanting to go out, for recipe ideas I can make from home!
HowUdish helped me to find food fast!
I am a registered dietitian, so I am always looking for new ways to help people maintain a healthy diet while leading busy lives. The HowUdish app can help users find dishes that can meet a variety of dietary patterns (low-calorie, low-carb, vegetarian, high-fiber, to name a few). I used the app on a recent trip to the Washington, DC area. I wanted to find a quick low-calorie meal on my way back to my hotel from the Metro. After fiddling with the app a bit, I found that the search function worked perfectly to find the restaurants which were closest to me. I learned about several eateries just around a corner that I would have missed following the direct route back to the hotel.
The restaurant that I chose to eat at did not have calorie information up on their menu board but using the app I was easily able to find a delicious meal to meet my needs. The app also let me know of additional nutritional benefits to the meals. For instance, the chicken gyro that I had at The Perfect Pita was not only low in calories, it was also high in protein. There were many restaurants available, so those looking to expand their dining experience beyond major chains should love HowUdish. I will be traveling out-of-state again next month and I look forward to seeing where I end up with HowUdish! This app is a great tool for people on special diets or anyone who is looking to eat a little healthier while on the road!
Close to perfect
This app has pretty much everything you could want in an app that helps you manage your diet. It's simple and precise in the best way, being ridiculously easy to use and focusing on the type of diet you have selected without excluding other options completely. The search functionality allows you to find both specific restaurants and specific dishes in your area, so you can fulfill the desire for a specific craving of the need arises. With an easy to use interface and several options for meeting your diet needs, the app is close to perfect.
My only small complaint is with the premium features, and it is indeed small. I believe the 'cheat meals' feature is a neat one, giving the user a means of treating themselves in the least damaging way possible. However, it seems odd that something as simple as an 'undo' button is a premium feature, when that would be considered a base option in most products. As for recipes, while being able to see the recipe for certain meals is definitely useful, I feel as though it would be just as easy for a user to simply use the internet to find the recipes they want instead, so even bothering to make recipes a premium feature seems nearly pointless.
Other than these small complaints, the app is amazing, being so simplistic yet so efficient. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to follow a strict diet plan with good food.
