You need to grab a color from an image, make it a little bit darker, and get the new hex value. You don't want to have to open a design program just to do that. With Hues, you'll be done before Photoshop has finished opening.

A fast, lightweight color picker app allows you to grab the color of any pixel on your screen. Built on top of the standard Mac OS X color picker that you're already familiar with. Whether you're a designer or developer, if you work with colors, you'll want Hues.

- Use the magnifying glass to grab the color of a single pixel
- View Hex, RGB(a), and HSL(a) value for any color
- Input Hex values so you can modify and covert them.
- Can select text or click button to copy values
- Auto copy default value to clipboard after selecting
- Customize format for each color representation to fit your needs
- History menu of last 25 colors
- Choose what color pickers to display
- Works alongside your favorite color picker plugins

Does the job. NOTE: Mac OS has this feature anyway.

This app does what it promises. But I think that some people that purchase this application do not realize that the mac already has the ability to place a magnifying glass on any spot in the screen anywhere, and slurp up the desired color from that pixes. You just go to any app that provides a color picker (like MS word, go to the command to change the text's color and then click "more colors…" . Then click on the magnifying glass icon and go click some pixel somewhere.
What this application does is it takes that same function that is already accessible inside many applications as I described, and places it into its own stand-alone application. To do away with having to open an application… for those times that you want to do color picking but you dont' have any color-relevant applications open. Hmm!
But, it's $3, not TOO bad… I guess. And makes it convenient to get this feature as its own little app.

Great Tool - Needs Work

If you work with HSLA and RGBA colors often, this tool is a must-have. Unfortunately it currently has some bugs revolving around that very interest. Besides the bugs, it's a bit clunky to use - and as a tool that is needed as often as this one is, the fact that it can't sit in the System Bar is just ridiculous.

If you only need to grab colors with full alpha (no transparency) and not alter those colors after-the-fact, I highly recommend Sip.

Alpha control in HSLA and RGBA when they work.
Ability to tweak/create colors and then export to different values.

Alpha control sometimes doesn't work at all.
Can't live in the System Bar.
Clunky use of the OS color picker as it's main interface missed a lot of opportunity.

Great tool -- well worth buying

This does exactly what I'm looking for. Picking any color on screen is extremely handy. Overall, the app works perfect, is minimal, and well worth the cost. My suggestions below are somewhat nit-picky and do not detract from the app in the least.

But a few more features would really push it over the top.

Particularly, I would love it if the history were persisted between sessions. That's sort of a no-brainer and I was surprised that it didn't do that. It would also be nice if the history were a bit pickier about what it added. Adding each color as I slide a slide-bar limit the use of it.
