This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
i3D is an overview of Head-Coupled Perspective (HCP) on iOS devices. HCP uses the front camera of the device to track the face of the user in real time. This information tells the app how the user is looking at the display. The app updates the perspective of the 3D scene accordingly, giving the user the illusion that he looks at a small window.
i3D contains several 3D scenes that you can observe with HCP. It only relies on face tracking. It does not use the accelerometers or the gyroscopes.
The face tracking system does not detect and track the face in every lighting condition. Read the instructions in the app to get a good tracking.
Head-Coupled Perspective does not create a stereoscopic display! It provides a kind of monocular 3D display: the same picture is seen by both eyes. In the future, it might be combined with a stereoscopic display for a better 3D effect.
i3D has been developed by Jeremie Francone and Laurence Nigay at the Engineering Human-Computer Interaction (EHCI) Research Group of the Grenoble Informatics Laboratory (LIG), University Joseph Fourier (UJF).
Great concept, I HOPE and hopeFULLY can't wait to see the technology in ALL KINDS of different media
This is a great, new kind of visual technology; that could be applied to any number of different kinds of devices (...video multimedia billboard-type advertising screens, mobile devices (I think the "cube/wall" demo in this app - that showed off a, nearly-ready-to-use version of a "multi-sided iOS 'desktop'" that could actually be *realistically* used in a production iOS (at least as an option/preference)...
Anyway, without rambling on and on, and while similar ideas & technologies that are similar to this demo have surfaced, I think that this app and this/these developers truly deserve a lot of recognition and praise - and as a whole, I personally can't wait to see (...and hopefully it does!!!) this type of technology be put into use in upcoming devices/OSes/etc.) - And especially, expect to see a billboard that mimics the one in "Back to the Future 2" (...Where the shark jumps out of the screen at Marty...) - come to a mall-near-me...SOON!
I don't like giving low reviews but....
I was a huge fan of the viral videos of this when it came out. But now since they released an actual application for it I am sorely disappointed. The graphics they have to offer are as expected, not bad' but they could be better for sure. But the face tracking is terrible. And I mean TERRIBLE! not only does it lose sight of your face every 4 seconds but it's sooooo jumpy! I lay the iPad down on the table, hold my head completely still and it still wiggled around like I'm moving. They need to add a buffer to the face tracking, I guess like image stabilizing software. This could be a great demonstration with A LOT of work, but for now, as cool as the concept is, I only give it 2 stars due to poor execution. Sorry guys. But I'll keep this on my iPad and maybe y'all will read these reviews and come up with some updates, then once it works well, I'll show all my friends.
It's an intuitive 3D advanced tech.
It's amazing Head tracking 3D effects , you move your face the effect you choose moves 2.
I don't understand the complaints it's just head tracking it's like a beta of a perfected future release 3D cellphones. To make success you must start from the bottom to the top. It's just a Test , beta or call it what you want... Future cellphones will have this feature but more advanced and perfected
