Spoiler Alert for Idiots: The [Noun] is [Pos. Pronoun] [Noun]
So, while I agree with most of the reviewers that this is a great game, I disagree heartily with the opinion that it's a great story. It's not a story at all. Even a child will recognize (from, if nothing else than the talented but "it totally gives it away" artwork and visual character body language) that there's something awry with the protagonist's [noun]. For an adult, duh, it's so obvious from the moment her [noun] Is introduced that [pronoun] is the [noun] driving what would otherwise be a plot. Yes, it's a game, not a novel, but a little suspense, please?
And why is it in these games that the [adjective] [noun] is always male? Big Fish made some good strides a few years back by featuring a protagonista, but really, it's time to put that away (or allow the player to choose the gender of the main character). El Pescado Grande is now reinforcing gender stereotypes, itself.
Anyway, it's beautiful and zoomable and the music isn't as intolerable as most of Big Fish's dreck, but there just isn't a story. A series of related events does not a story make, boys and girls. If that was all it took, the average person's life would be worth noting, and it's not. Try a little harder, Fishies. You've had good stories; you've had good games; you've had good artwork. How about more instances of all three in a single title?
Lots of fun!
Pros: Interesting story line, lot of places to visit. Nice mix of HOS and puzzles. Love the interactive map, saves so much time. No spam tapping penalty which i like. Graphics are beautiful and the cutscenes are cool and effective. Great surprise ending :).
Cons: when picking up items, they are added to the inventory so quickly that you can't tell what they are forcing you to go to your inventory. Would be nice to have the inventory pane be able to be locked in the open position. With these types of games I hit the back navigation a lot of times when I was trying to get into the inventory. There is no bonus chapter which I have come to expect for a $7 game. Without it, it is a little on the short side.
The bottom line is that this was a fun game, love the concept of a serial fairy tale murderer and it kept my attention the whole time. Nice job! Looking forward to the next in the series.
Expert mode should not be easy!
I started the trial and I'm not sure I'm even going to finish it. It looks like a cute game, good graphics, etc., but what is the point of having an expert mode if not only when you tap an object does it show you the choices of things that need interactions, but it tells you where to go with the dang magnifying glass.
BF needs to rate games on ease of gameplay or something so if you want something more difficult you know which ones not to buy. The games are better when they have 3 options because then usually the hardest mode has no sparkles etc.
If you are more of a beginner, you might enjoy the game, just don't expect to be challenged on what to do next if you are used to playing these kind of games.
