Simple in a good way, but annoying in the long run

I like the the app for its simplicity— just type away! But there are some major annoyances that makes me not stick with this for writing. The first thing is the inability to pick font, especially font size. The authors of the app are deliberately *not* providing this feature for reasons that are simply ridiculous and arrogant (see their web site). It is frankly a pain that you can’t zoom in and out of your writing. Also while I like the short cuts for headers and bullets and so forth, I don’t like the default styling, specifically I find the fact that bullet lists are shifted out to the left really bizarre and visually unhelpful. I love the idea of chrome-less and simple writing tools- the antithesis of Microsoft Word’s distracting feature chaos- but I am not using IA Writer anymore for the reasons mentioned.

I am using it more and more.

I love the app. I use it to prepare lectures. I write them on my Mac and then deliver them from my iPad. For me it works great. It did take a little time to get use to the markdown way of writing. From other reviews I gather that it does not follow markdown standard completely but it works great for me. In previous versions my only annouce was printing from the Mac. They have added the freature to print the mark up view.

Let just say again that this app paired with the ipad version makes a great team. Write the document on the Mac or the iPad. Edit in both places.

The giant blue cursor is great. It makes it easy to see where your typing. After using iA Writer, I spent twenty minutes tyring to see if I could change the cursor in Pages and TextEdit (no).

OK for basic cross-device text processing

It really bugs me that I had to buy separate 'versions' for my Mac and for my iOS devices.
The single fixed-width font is fine for my purposes, but the fixed 64 character width makes me feel like I'm working on an old TRS-80. Does the text HAVE to wrap there, or even at all? It's OK for some of my uses, but kind of obnoxious for others.
The keyboard on the iOS 'version' is very nice, and I would rate that 'version' higher just for that, but this Mac 'version' doesn't have anything like that for me to get excited about.

This'll do until they release Text Edit for iOS...
