iAnnotate is all new and better than ever. It’s the best way to read, annotate, and share PDFs, Microsoft Office files, images and web pages! Over 1 million people turn to iAnnotate to take notes, sign agreements, highlight documents, insert stamps and more.

New in v4: iPhone support, iPad Pro and multitasking support, automatic Apple Pencil detection, shape annotations, improved web markup, enhanced support for OneDrive (and OneDrive for Business), iCloud Drive, and iCloud backup.

iAnnotate’s award-winning interface and customizable set of features make it the go-to app for taking notes on lecture slides, annotating important business documents, revising screenplays, grading papers, and much more. Read on to learn about the great capabilities of iAnnotate:

IPHONE: Now you can use iAnnotate on your phone, with all of the great features you’ve come to expect on your iPad.

IPAD PRO: iAnnotate works great with the iPad Pro. Automatically annotate when you use the Apple Pencil and easily pan, zoom, scroll with your fingers — no tool switching required. Get more work done with iOS multitasking and smart keyboard shortcuts.

ANNOTATE: Choose from the pen, highlighter, typewriter, stamp, straight-line, note, underline, strikeout, photo, voice recording, arrow, rectangle, circle, and date stamp tools.

CUSTOMIZE: Drag and drop tools to your custom toolbars. Swipe between toolbars, or open the Toolbox to access all your tools.

ACCESS: Connect with Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive (including OneDrive for Business) or open PDFs directly from email and other apps.

SEARCH: Search documents in your local library and throughout your cloud storage.

SHARE: iAnnotate saves your markups directly to the PDF, so they can be viewed and edited in external PDF readers.

FLATTEN: Compress your annotations onto the document to prevent modification. This is useful for preserving signatures or for preventing recipients from deleting or changing your annotations.

WEB MARKUP: Open a web capture tab and find the site you want to mark up. iAnnotate will convert it to a PDF for annotation.

NAVIGATE: Explore your documents by thumbnails, bookmarks, annotations, or search results.

UNLIMITED TABS: Open multiple documents in tabs, and easily navigate between them, on both tablet and phone.

TWO DOCUMENTS: Work on two documents side-by-side, for even greater productivity.

MANAGE: Arrange documents by folders and sort contents by date added, date last opened, or alphabetical order.

CREATE: Create brand new PDFs with blank, lined, or graph-paper pages.

MODIFY: Add, delete, rotate, and rearrange pages in your documents.

SUMMARIZE: Forward a summary of your annotations as an email or a new PDF.

SECURE: Full support for the iOS Data Protection and Keychain functions.

Overall very helpful but not exactly what I need

I am in veterinary school and I use this app to take notes daily. It is nice that you can write on the PowerPoint or other document, my main issue is that there is no way of adding a blank space next to the PowerPoint to write notes on. I am one that uses the handout 3 slides/page notes when I print because I take so many notes. Currently I have to open everything on my computer, save it as a PDF with the notes format then move it over to google drive before I can open it on the app. It is very frustrating and I have yet to find an app that will let me do this without using my computer. I hope their developers keep this in mind because I have read about students equally as frustrated with me but no solutions have come. (I would use one note because they have this feature but I only have google accounts and that requires a Microsoft account)

Sorry for the long review but this is great for those students who don't need a lot of space to write! (Except for the random times it decides to shut off but all annotations are saved)

Developer Response

Thank you for writing in to us! We have heard something similar from other students. This is something that we are potentially considering adding in the future. If you contact, you can speak with our Product Manager directly and discuss this suggestion in greater detail.

Dropbox Connectivity Ruined in New Version

Using iAnnotatePDF, I had everything at my fingertips, tons of reference material for my job that I could read and annotate whether I was online or out in the field far from wifi or cellular. If I was connected, my annotations instantly zipped via Dropbox to my desktop or wherever. If I was disconnected, the changes would sync once I got within range again. It worked PERFECTLY for me. Then came along the FANTABULOUS, EXCITING and INSANELY GREAT iAnnotate4, and now the thing seems to be designed solely for those who are ALWAYS CONNECTED to the cloud, or those who are willing (and able) to constantly move their documents back and forth via iTunes or something.

I may be wrong (I often am) and there might be a way to make it work like before, but like most developers these days, you cannot find help.

It WAS a good app back before the “improvement”, now I’m looking for some other way to do things the way I want to do them, not the way some dude in tight-jeans and green hair thinks is spiffy. Ruined my experience and opinion of this company! IF YOU HAVE A WAY I CAN SYNC TO DROPBOX WITHOUT CONSTANT CONNECTIVITY TO THE CLOUD PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Developer Response

We are very sorry that you are do dissatisfied with the new update. Other users have expressed the same issues and concerns to us and we will be bringing that feature back (automatically saving to the app) in our next update. Once again, we are very sorry you are experiencing these problems, but we hope the next update will make your experience perfect again!

Ruined app, still waiting on promised fix

Active Customer

Like the commenter above, I have used iAnnotate for many years. It is a critical tool for my everyday work. But unless the promised fix to automatically save files locally on the device comes soon, I will be switching to an app that includes that feature. The responder from Branchfire commented on the previous commenter’s post on November 20th. It is December 19th and still no fix in an update. When is the fix coming? I cannot deal with my documents disappearing, particularly when I’m not finished editing them or when I need to go back to them. There was NO ADVANCE NOTICE via email or a notification on the app. Documents just suddenly started disappearing and cannot be found. I have lost HOURS of editing work.

This must be fixed. If it isn’t, I will not only not use this app anymore but will never use another Branchfire product. It is terribly inconsiderate to make a major change in your product with no warning. Very poor decision that should be changed immediately.

Developer Response

We are so sorry that you are unhappy with iAnnotate. In the next update, you will have the option to automatically backup your files. However, we want to make sure that this update is the best that it can be, and that does take a bit of time. The problem you're experiencing does sound unusual, though. Please contact so we can take a closer look at this.
