iAnnotate’s intuitive interface and customizable set of features make it the "go-to app" for taking notes on lecture slides, annotating important business documents, revising screenplays, grading papers, and much more. Read on to learn about the great capabilities of iAnnotate:
ANNOTATE: Choose from the pen, highlighter, typewriter, stamp, straight-line, note, underline, strikeout, photo, voice recording, and date stamp tools. Copy and paste annotations, even from one document to another.
CUSTOMIZE: Drag and drop the exact tools you need to create custom toolbars for your specific workflow. Switch between toolbars with a swipe, or open the Toolbar Drawer to edit your toolbars.
SCROLL: iAnnotate allows fast, continuous vertical scroll through an entire document. Other apps only let you view one page at a time, but iAnnotate gives you both options.
SEARCH: Use keywords to search the full text or filenames of every document downloaded to your Library, or limit your search to unread, annotated, or favorited documents to refine your results.
NAVIGATE: Open the Navigation Panel to explore your documents by thumbnails, bookmarks, annotations, or search results, and perform other common actions.
MULTITASK: iAnnotate lets you have up to eight documents open at once, and easily navigate between them for tabbed reading.
IMPORT: Connect with Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive or WebDAV, use iTunes file sharing, or open PDFs directly from email or the Web.
MANAGE: Arrange documents by folders and sort contents by date added, date last opened, or alphabetical order.
CREATE: Create brand new PDFs with blank, lined, or graph-paper pages.
MODIFY: Add, delete, rotate, and rearrange pages in your documents.
FLATTEN: Compress your annotations onto the document to prevent modification. This is useful for preserving signatures or for preventing recipients from deleting or changing your annotations.
SHARE: Annotations made in iAnnotate are fully integrated into the PDF and can be viewed and edited in external PDF readers like Adobe Acrobat or Mac Preview.
SUMMARIZE: Forward text summaries of a document's annotations in the body of an email. Summaries include the type of each annotation, relevant page numbers, and marked-up text.
SECURE: Full support for the iOS Data Protection and Keychain functions.
WATCH FOR UPDATES: With frequent updates and an attentive ear to our users, we are continuously improving iAnnotate. Stay tuned for even more new features to come!
What's New in Version v3.1.3
v3.1.3 includes minor updates and bug fixes.
Getting really good!
I have been back and forth on my reviews with this app. Some of their changes have been great, but others have been pretty bad. At times I have rated it with two stars, and at other times with five. I still hate that I cannot set a tool to *always* start with a given set of parameters, even if I change them on the fly for a particular annotation, but I have gotten used to it. I also don't understand how they can not take a moment to give us arrows as an annotation option. Really, how hard would that be?
However, I must give fair credit to the developers who solved a host of other problems in the app and who have, on balance, improved it over time. I am a professor who uses this app extensively for grading assignments, so I spend many hours a week using it, and I have tried pretty much every pdf annotation app out there. No other app gives me the ability to create custom stamps or to organize my own toolbars, and this is simply the best in terms of overall usability and work flow. Right now, it's a great app and it deserves 5 stars. (Please give me arrows!)
Great, but doesn’t play well with OS Preview
This app has been absolutely fantastic for me in medical school. My only complaint (please fix!) is that the text from iAnnotate renders poorly in Preview (which I also use to take notes when on computer). Likewise, text added in Preview renders poorly in iAnnotate. By poorly I mean it’s not the clean vectorized text like the source program renders. It’s pixelated. And it’s very hard to edit the text made from another program. Does the text from iAnnotate not equate with the text from preview? It seems it should be a standardized text annotation in both cases, but they’re different. One other minor suggestion: many other students use Notability, and one thing I like about that is when using a stylus, it writes much better than with iAnnotate. Notability renders the stroke width based on the pressure, so at the end of letters, it thins out. iAnnotate seems to have a constant stroke width and does some slightly inaccurate spline fitting to render the line drawn. iAnnotate’s drawing (stylus) should be improved. If these two things are fixed, this app is far better than anything out there. Great job!
Excellent App - Has greatly improved my workflow
This is a fantastic app. What it suffers from is not problems functionality, but challenges with interface design. There are some serious inefficiencies with respect to using the annotation tools. There are two needs that one has when annotating documents: precision and speed. We desire tools like iAnnotate to replace pen and paper. In order to fully do that, the tools have to be just as efficient to use as an ordinary pen and just as easy. They aren't there yet, but this is still very good app. It has greatly improved my workflow.
My original Review:
I started using iAnnotate about a month ago and could not be more impressed. I am a trial lawyer, and iAnnotate has enabled me to more easily read, review, and digest the voluminous motions, evidence, discovery, and correspondence that I receive. Now, I can mark-up documents during my read/analyze (without having to print out the document), and easily make a memo to the file by emailing myself the annotation summary. The annotation tools are superb, very easy to use, and comprehensive. iAnnotate opens large PDF files without any difficulty.
I'd like to be able to review two PDFs side-by-side simultaneously, and I'm not sure you can do this with iAnnotate. This is a minor issue for me and would make a great feature for the next version.
