Watch and listen to Baldi or Baldette, 3D animated characters who can read you text with extraordinarily accurate mouth and face movements and convincing emotions.

You can import any text to have Baldi or Baldette speak it to you. You can also save your favorite texts in your Notes app for Baldi to read at any time. You can control Baldi’s facial look and emotion. Take your content with you and enjoy Baldi offline.

Baldi has been successful in tutoring deaf and hard of hearing children, serving as a language teacher for autistic kids, and instructing children and adults in learning how to speak new languages. He’s overjoyed to make a new presence on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod, and eager to see how he might help bring spoken language into more prominence. Have fun making Baldi talk, and celebrate spoken language rather than just text.

Fun App:, Not Enough Features

I love iBaldi but it's a limited app. There's no way to produce a video or use on social networks. I paid for this app which functions like a trial version.

So dissapointed!! It's not worth it paying for this... Don't waste your money.

We are a group of college students studying speech-language pathology. We have spent the semester researching iBaldi and trying it in our clinic with speech therapy clients. We were fascinated by this app, and wanted to explore it further. We think this app has the potential to be a great app for speech therapy. Below are our views on this app:

Although the emotions may have changed, they are not highly accurate or useful for displaying pragmatic factors. Additionally, not all of the mouth movements are exactly accurate; for example, there is no evidence of lip rounding.

We wish there was a way to pause Baldi when he was speaking, because this would be beneficial when a section of text or sentence requires further explanation or repetition. As of now, you have to re-start the entire text. Additionally, we wish there was a way to slow the rate of speech even further than the current version, because it would be helpful when using the app to learn how a sound is produced.

It is valuable to have a female voice, but Baldette does not appear to be highly realistic. The facial features are not any different than Baldi. Furthermore, it is distracting to have her hair in the way while trying to watch the inside view of her speaking.

The connected speech aspect of the app is beneficial, but it would also be helpful if it could read and recognize individual graphemes/phonemes.

The ability to import any text into iBaldi was useful. It would also be helpful, however, if there was a way to save separate, multiple notes into the application itself instead of having to delete the default text every time. For example, we typed up several word lists that compared different sounds. Every time we wanted to switch lists, we had to exit iBaldi and copy the lists from the Notes program into iBaldi.

Overall, this is a good app, but there are improvements that could be made.

This app offers the ability to insert commands (i.e. @emotion ang=1.0) into the text as you are typing. The idea of manually coding within the text for rate of speech and emotions is helpful, but overall is a complicated and tedious process that would require more time than it is worth. We are not highly interested in coding emotions for use in speech therapy, but it could be useful for other people.
