Greatly enhances bird watching experience
This app helps extraordinarily with identifying sparrow, warbler, shorebirds which can be difficult on your own because there's so many different ones. You can filter out bird list to only show birds in your region. Filter bird list by physical characteristics. The bird sounds in the app help greatly in identifying also. Some birds will respond to the app sounds for example, lets say you spot an indigo bunting, play the indigo bunting song on your phone with the volume turned all the way up... keep eyes on the bird while doing this, you will notice the bird responds either vocally or moves to a slightly different location near where you're standing. Sone birds it wont work but you'll find certain birds will consistently respond. This helps if you need the bird to move to get a different look at it. Great app, would easily pay double the price. Excellent for sure, I can't say enough good things about it.
Use it all the time
I'm a professional biologist, and I use this all the time in the field. I especially like to use it to confirm bird calls that I hear when I'm in dense vegetation and have no chance of seeing the bird (although, I live in California, and a lot of the species that are found nationwide have recordings from only a state or two on the east coast! It'd be great to increase the diversity of recordings). I frequently find illustrations to be misleading in visually identifying birds, so I also appreciate that the app includes photos. Also a lot easier to use that trying to fish my field guide out of the bottom of my pack.
Love this app
I recently started to take appreciation in our feathered friends living around my house. I live in a wooded area near the ocean and this app has helped me identify birds that previously I had no idea existed. Excellent search and refine features. Ability to save favorite birds to a list for quick reference. Listen to bird calls for identification which is extremely useful, especially for those birds that wake you up at 5am every morning. If you're into birds, or just getting started, it's worth the $$.
