THIS IS A MUST GET APP!
i have had some apps to hep proformus but this takes the cake. it has helped me somany times i lost count i think i was at 59 in the ferst week. but besides the pont. i had 4 GB of ram in my imac and when i played some games that rely reqired alot of ram i used this to help increes proformus but just pressing optimise memory. it is 100% free of the ID-10-T eror of lack of ram plus it can run it self when free ram gows to low with pramiters you can set incloding an alert to let you know it is coming near the low free ram. i reroly recomend apps but this one is in the my top 3 list for a must have apps.
con: for the aler to work you must install Growler but it helps you to install and cheks to see of it works properly. thow tow that app must be open for the wonderst to work. this is the worst cons ther are about the app. but set up will take 15 minets if using dile up (the phone line for all the pepole that dont know what i tiped).
Simply Works as Advertized
This app worked beautifully for me on Snow Leopard and now it continues to work on Lion.
It's new "Quick" mode is great because it frees memory without much effect on the perormance of the other apps while the freeing is beeing done.
I don't think that the app itself can free memory for the operating system, because that would be "illegal". Instead, it appears that it tricks the operating system to do it by claiming a biggest possible chunk of memory for itself and forcing the operating system to re-arrange the rest of the memory in order to accomodate the need of this app. This is why when this process is being done (not in the "quick" mode), the whole computer becomes sluggish. Anyway, it's really a great app to have and I think it should be used occaisonally by anyone with a Mac.
It does the job well
I use 3 different brands of memory managers that essentially do the same thing. If you want really easy, basic and effective results, go no further. I can't mention the other brands but what this one does not tell you is what app might be secretly hogging ram even when it's running in the background, so if you want to dig deeper keep looking. I use This app first. If I am forced to defrag the memory a lot in one day, I switch to one that gives me everything that's running as a % of available ram. That can help if you have to ask iClean Memory to do its thing manually, which I have set to clean at the "depth" level, or midway between quick and developer, which I am not. It's a great app when I don't need to look further and I recommend it for anyone whose happy with set and forget!!
