What's New

Version 3.1.8

Just making a few things better...
• Solves problems some of you were having
• Can detect certain automation problems and helps solving them

This is almost a new minor version, since we've done quite a lot of improvements. Hence decided to make the 3.1.6 a 3.1.7 ;)

What has changed:
• You can now use Magic Scenes in the Animation editor, and the Animation and animation functionality editor has generally been polished
• Improved bridge search with IP scan for some rare cases of problematic networks
• Support for the new bridge firmware with more available rules
• You can now trigger the bridge button from within the bridge page - just in case you've hidden it somewhere ;)
• Support for several new light manufacturers, including Trust, Paul Neuhaus Plug and several other controller manufacturers - see all of them on: http://iconnecthue.com/supported-devices/
• New Magic Scene set "Flower Power" - as if the 70s never stopped living! (In App purchase - just a buck!)
• Drag & Drop off lights onto other lights to turn them off quickly
• Solved problems some of you were having and reporting - thank you for this!

Go, try it all out!

Your feedback is welcome!
Never forget, this app wouldn't be here without you! Please leave a positive rating in the App Store, if you like these changes or want to support iConnectHue.
If you run into any issues, don’t hesitate and use the contact function in the app. You will surely get support!

Dear iConnectHue user, we have some great news for you: Say "Hello" to the world of Magic Scenes!

Remember that hassle with setting up traditional scenes? Set each light's color, then save it. But then, it only works for this one group.
Magic Scenes unify the way scenes work - one scene works for all of your groups, and iConnectHue does the work for you. Modify them with the Magic Scene wheel, adjust saturation and other parameters until they look like you want them in your group - iConnectHue will remember it for the next time you use it! Magic scenes are available for timers, switches, Motion Sensor, Coming/Leaving and Widget. They are ready to play with - two free packages are included! With the additional Magic Scene designer, you'll be able to design your own personal Magic Scenes - create new Magic Scenes within seconds! Don't want to get creative? We've got you covered with two additional great Magic Scene Packages: "That 80s" and "Evening Skies".
Try them out and you'll see why you never want to go back to ordinary scenes.

Not only that, this has also been done:
• Adaptions to the many changes iOS 11 has brought
• Color preview when e.g. setting up timers, widget, or magic scenes
• More options on the bridge service page
• Support for more Innr and Tradfri lights
• The complete change list will be shown to you on app start, you will also find it under "Help & More"

I am deleting the app because of the wording of this update

Frankly, I buy all of the "in app" purchases with the app. I find the piecemeal assembly of the developer's complete app a frustrating business model. I buy all available additions with the app as I said a sentence ago - but, this wizard of a developer made an error in his last release and did not charge enough money to make his app "fully functional" - and, with this update he is turning off some of the app's functions and requires additional payment.

I don't know if my app is effected by this - but I don't care: retroactive fee increases just chap my hide.

Developer Response

Hello grolaw,

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm sure though it is a misunderstanding. It's not easy to find a wording that fits for everybody. Though the "wizard" is a person, too, and is able to communicate ;)

What is the case: The problem existed for less than two days, only a few users have been affected in this time range and, even if you had the impression, will never affect ANY of your purchases you have made yet. They will still be there after the update.

If you like it or not, it's not possible to sell updates via the app store. But this app is always kept up to date and always being worked on - for 4.5 years already. I'm sure you also don't want to work for free, neither do I. This is why the app has some in app purchases.
While they are there, and I'm happy you purchased some, you are not forced to do so. I'm sure you don't even need all of them. This problem is also described in more detail on this page:

Thanks for your investment and don't worry about the update. In case you run into any problems, please use the contact method from iConnectHue's menu and I'm sure we will find a way to sort them out.

The Best So Far

BradWhite Grapeview,Wa

By far the best app I’ve used for configuring Hue devices (motion sensors, dimmer switch). The options available in IConnectHue for these devices allows you to use them to their full potential. Phillips own Hue app doesn’t even come close to providing the options you can use via IConnectHue.

In app purchases are too much.

Interesting and powerful app. However the programmers are way too greedy with all of the in app additional purchases. Takes all of the potential fun out of the app.

Developer Response

Hello JBW_TX,

I'm sorry that you feel this way, but I think it is quite offensive to call us "greedy", since we are not. You're comparing iConnectHue to an average app that is put once into the store and then maybe maintained on the same level over a year or two years or so - and after that, nobody cares any longer.

iConnectHue is being continuously developed over five years now. For this, the base price is a steal! The main app gets new features and adapts to new systems and iOS versions all the time. You obviously can imagine that we can't work this way if we can't get our work paid.

From time to time, we add features that are in app purchases - and we will - and need - to do this in the future, too. Just imagine, your employer tells you he wants you to work for several years, but wants to give you an initial salary only. Would that work for you?
Well, in order to be able to continue development on this app, we need to get it paid. This is no greed, this is a simple necessity. I honestly also have my problems to understand how you can come to the conclusion of "greed", when you're looking at a range of a few dollars - because I'm sure you don't need every in app purchase. Your hourly salary may already be beyong that.

This is surely hard to understand in the first place, if you look at the many throw-away-apps in the store. But this app isn't such a one, hence it can't act like such a one.

Here's some further reading on this:

Thank you for your understanding!
