Not perfect, but I like it!
I’ve had this app installed for roughly a year I think, and it definitely works... but not perfectly. It absolutely has flagged incoming calls from telephone numbers that have been reported by other users. I have reported about 30 robocalls and/or scams myself through the app. I have not experienced the server communication error described here by others, but whenever I get curious and want to check on how many reported numbers it is tracking, most of the time it remains stuck updating the tally without ever settling on a final count. I also wish it were possible for me to enter the phone number for any scam calls or robocalls I receive on my landline at home and at work — but I presume the developer didn’t offer that capability because it could be abused by people maliciously reporting innocent callers. Bottom line: Although it is not “ideal,” it does work for me, doing what it says it does. Let’s hope the developers make a few improvements as it is well worth the low price in providing a useful defense against the maddening scourge of scammers and robocalls.
New iphone-no option to turn on notifications and info on apps ability to block calls
I had purchased this to stop all the annoying calls on a previous iphone. As luck would have it, I had to get a new iPhone, but the app moved to it. However, the option in settings to turn on the notifications for when you send a number to block it wasn’t available any longer. I decided to delete the app and reload it to the new phone. By doing this, the notification option was once again available in settings on the new phone. Also, I wasn’t charged again for the app, which was good! As it relates to blocking the calls, it does a good job. However, my husband and I still receive 3 to 4 calls per phone we have to report; although, it’s better than getting calls all day long though.
Does the job and getting stronger
I have watched this app improve in real time over my first month as the crowd sourced data is building to critical mass. Since robo callers are mostly criminals that ignore the "do not call registry" and are constantly spoofing caller ID, blacklisting numbers by yourself is a drop in the ocean. With all the contributors RoboFence has, they seem to have caught up to all the nefarious bad guys that have been trying to hit my phone. I'm starting to feel guilty by not answering my phone when a rogue caller gets past the fence. I decided to "take one for the team" by answering a bad guy so I can report that number via the app. In my opinion the Nobel Peace Prize is a waste of money. They should be giving it to these guys.
