It just beat leela 0.11.0
This app, running on my smart phone, somehow just beat leela 0.11.0 running on my pc (the strongest program I thought I had... leela quickly and easily defeats amateur 4 dan humans, and I’m guessing it’s at least amateur 7 dan)... maybe it found some sort of shape misunderstanding in leela but I’m still looking into it. This was the first time I tried this experiment, so I’ll be sure to try again, but it seems like this app either got *much* stronger, or it got very lucky (several times). Leela had a better opening, but CS came back crushed it in the end game... anyways that result just blew my mind and I had to immediately give it a 5-star review. Keep up the good work. Maybe in the not-so-distant future we’ll all have superhuman go masters in our pockets
Update: just beat leela again. There was 4 ko fights going on simultaneously and it was a very complex game. Leela only had a slight lead in the opening this time, but CS quickly came back with an extremely strong middle and end game. It is very sharp. This app is no joke, I honestly can’t believe it’s this strong given the hardware and time restrictions. It looks like the neural networks have been significantly improved, though I see no mention of such an update. It’s definitely much stronger than 5 dan. Feels like 9 dan or stronger (but it did lose to a 2-dan opponent... I assume it must make a pretty significant mistake every once in a while).
About import/export ...
I hesitated buying this for quite a while because of the negative reviews, especially regarding the SGF import/export capability. But I finally took a chance and am happy to say that they have fixed all of those issues. You can copy and paste to/from the clipboard to exchange games with other apps, export via email, load/save from iCloud and Dropbox (and probably other cloud drive apps, those are the only ones I tested), and it also works as an “Open with ...” target for other things like email attachments and web links.
I’d recommend trying the free version of CrazyStone first and seeing if it works for you because the import/export features are the same there. The Pro version adds Analysis mode and Rating mode (which tracks your rating separately for 9x9, 13x13 and 19x19) and removes the ads found in the free version. As others have noted, the UI isn’t the greatest in the world, but it is functional when you get used to it.
Even though it is quite expensive, I’m happy with the purchase, and it is at least much more affordable than the Steam version.
This app is wonderful for my level.
