Description

Take your nature knowledge up a notch with Seek! Seek encourages outdoor exploration and learning by harnessing image recognition technology to help you identify plants and animals from your photos. Choose from a list of nearby plants, animals, and fungi and collect photographs of as many species as you can!

• Earn badges as you photograph new species.

• Become more engaged with the wildlife around you.

• Learn cool facts about the critters and plants that live right in your own backyard wilderness.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE SEEKING TODAY?

Drawing from millions of wildlife observations on iNaturalist, Seek shows you lists of commonly recorded insects, birds, plants, amphibians, and more in your area. Use our maps and charts to determine what you want to look for and snap a photo when you think you’ve found it. Our image recognition software lets you know if you got it right and if it’s a match, adds it to your collection. The more your collection grows, the more badges you’ll earn!

See something that’s not on the list? You can still take a photo of it and Seek will add it to your collection if it’s recognized!

This is a great app for families who want to spend more time exploring nature together.

Buggy, Needs Improvement

Egon's Ghost

I honestly want to like this app, but it is far too problematic to give it anything more than two stars. Frequent bugs including graphical, loading, hangs and crashes plague this application in its current version, and seriously hamper the user experience. Further, it would be nice if the user could suggest species type when the proper genus has been identified, but Seek has problems narrowing it down to genus type. At least allow the user to flag it (as a genus at a minimum), even if there is no badge awarded for doing so. I sincerely hope that iNaturalist improves the interface (it’s not bad, but could be better), and eliminate the numerous bugs along with the AI image database for better identification, the sooner the better, and the more stars they’ll earn. That being said, thank you for the free app, despite the development challenges.

Such a cool idea, needs to be more forgiving

bfkrndnf

I love the idea here and it’s a lot of fun, but it’s really frustrating to have them keep saying “We THINK it’s ______, but we cant be sure”. Just let us enter what it is, and be more forgiving with the badges. I have taken photos of plants and animals from all possible angles with great lighting, focus, and identifying characteristics, and I’m still not getting credit. Just let us earn badges for the maybes. It’s not like the identification software is perfect even when it thinks it is- I got credit for a honeybee off of a flower, no honeybee in sight.

Species recognition is cool, but I want my own notes

jdwhiting

This is a cool idea. It would be so much better if it let you add your own notes to your entries (including additional photos/video) and also a capability to share them. I suppose there are other naturalist apps that do all those things, but just don’t have the species recognition feature. If you gave me all of this in one place I would switch to 5 stars and become an evangelist for your app.
