What's New in Version 1.0.28
Minor bug fixes, now OS 3.0 compatible.
We've had reports that this version won't launch for some people. If this happens please delete it from your device then install again and it will work.
Sega has a habit of taking their classic video games and dragging them through the dirt. (See Sonic the Hedgehog GENESIS on the GBA.)
While I'm delighted to say that Columns Deluxe deserves its designation with the incredible pixel art, remixed classic tunes, and classic gameplay, it's not perfect and can be downright frustrating at times.
I turned off accelerometer controls from the very start. Controlling a game like this with an accelerometer is like trying to control an aircraft with nothing but a Wii remote. But I'm sad to say that the touchscreen controls don't quite do the game justice, either.
The controls are incredibly clunky while the CPU player controls as if they had a control pad. That just seems unfair to me.
The lack of custom soundtracks is a bummer, especially considering that both Columns and Puyo Puyo themes are rather forgettable.
Overall, it's passable, but only just. Fixing the controls alone to something more like Tetris for iPhone would do this game wonders.
Unbelievably, it doesn't save when you exit
First, I want to address the crash issues. I couldn't get it to launch either, until I deleted it from my iPod, then shut down and restarted the iPod (hold down the "sleep" button on top until the "slide to power off" slider appears, slide it off, wait until it's off, then turn it back on). THEN copy the file back on to your iPod/iPhone from iTunes, and this time it should work.... But, there's another huge issue-it doesn't save the state of the game when you exit! It's incomprehensible to me that any program would do that, let alone a game. That right there is a complete deal killer for me. Then you’ve got the bad control-probably decent, considering, but atrocious compared to a d-pad and buttons. And even if it WAS all working, it’s still just a version of Columns and Puyopop…which is okay, but for me at best it’s just something to kill some time.
Easy fix for crashing update
This is a good game but the update did mess it up. But don't worry u don't have to pay to reinstall. Go into iTunes and with ur phone connected go to 'File' and then 'Transfer Purchases'. After that do a backup just to be safe and then go into the phone on iTunes and under the Applications tab select 'sync applications'. Hit ok on the msg screen and then wait for it to do its syncing.
Then delete Columns from your phone and then resync it from ur computer to have iTunes automatically reinstall the app. That's it...no need to pay 1.99 if u got the free version.
