Good, But Missing Something
One of the benefits of TA membership and the full website is the wealth of information that can be clicked through that can truly give you a sense of understanding something as complex and unknown as a resort on an island in a country you have never visited, or as simple as a coffee shop in your neighborhood you might have overlooked. Such a resource is not trivial to replicate or access in a mobile app. This is not as simple as replicating bank transactional functionality. TA has done a good job of providing access to the resources of its website, but the interactivity and interrelatedness of those resources is not fully implemented. Not sure how you can do that, but if TA figures it out, this will go from quite good to killer. For now, it is more a "gateway research" tool, and at that, it's quite good. None of that is to detract from the fact that this is a good app that makes the full TA resource even more effective (and with less advertising than the full website). And of course, it is a potentially excellent resource while traveling. On a recent trip on the U.S. east coast that included two cities I had not visited in a while, TA helped me locate good espresso shops that my specialized coffee apps failed to reveal. Heck, that's worth 5 stars right there.
We went on a cross-country road trip from California to the East Coast and back...with only one reservation ahead of time. We used Trip Advisor to help us find clean hotels that were affordable--and it helped us avoid hotels with low ratings. We also used Trip Advisor to help us find our now favorite hotel right near Disneyland. We are annual pass holders and sometimes like to spend the night down in Anaheim, even though we only live about 1 1/2 hours away...Trip Advisor helped us find the Ayres Hotel Anaheim, and we are about to book our 3rd stay there!
The most used app on my phone!
I travel a lot and it's never let me down whether it be in my home country or traveling international. Useful tips on the forums plus a general idea of what to expect from hotels to restaurants to activities. This site has never let me down. I love that I can click the address and it'll bring it up on my gps system with ease. I don't ever make travel arrangements without first checking on tripadvisior first. Forums are easy to use and I always get plenty of tips and answers when I can't find the information anywhere else.
