Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Facebook doesn’t run GPS in the background unless you give us permission by turning on optional features that require this.
What's New in Version 38.0
Thanks for using Facebook! To make our app better for you, we bring updates to the App Store every 2 weeks. You can update the app automatically (without checking back here) by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads and turning on Updates.
Every update of our Facebook app includes improvements for speed and reliability. As other new features become available, we’ll highlight those for you in the app.
WORSE is a new feature
Well, that's just peachy. For today's iPad update, Facebook included a feature that was recently added to the iPhone version, and for which they have been criticized by many people. So why would they include it in the iPad version, knowing people DESPISE this new "feature?"
I'm talking about opening external links in a sort of Facebook browser. Remember that? You could click on a link, it would open a browser (which had forward and back buttons), and you could click around for as long as you wanted to. Then when you were done, you could simply X out of it and return immediately to Facebook. Brilliant.
But no more. The only button the new versions have is a BACK button...so if you clicked through 40 images in an external photo gallery, you have to click the BACK button 40 times to get back to Facebook. Or close the app and start all over and lose your place in your newsfeed. Not brilliant.
The Antisocial Network (still)
AUG 28: (NEW!) BUGS: Notifications are not in chronological order: if more than one person comments on a post, the most recent comment is shown first, which makes no cohesive sense of using Fbook anymore! ALSO: Forgets where you were if you leave the app to quickly use Messenger to copy a quote, etc, coming back to nothingness. Slow loading, bigger battery drain, ugly "menu" change, yet still can't give us a "Most Recent" default setting usage!? This is a programming mess of an app. Overall: Facebook has reinvented itself to the point of devolution. Non-chronological "timelines" & too many ads: Why, w/billions in net assets, can't Fbook afford to give its users easy access to the "Most Recent" option IN their newsfeed? Why take private messages into an entirely separate app within an app? With continual "updates" that don't fix core problems, Fbook has managed to make my experience less social, less involved & especially less informed about my friends' lives, sadly. Fbook has become its own antithesis: The Antisocial Network.
Please fix this mess!
9/4 I don't care for this new status update having multiple steps. I want everything on one page. My status, my photo, check in and who I am with. I don't want to mess around with next and who do you want to share this with. Useless!!!! In addition, I absolutely loathe "people you may know" showing up in my feed. There is no reason for that whatsoever. If I wan to find friends I will do it myself. I hate it. Other problems are mentioned by other users here, so I will not repeat those.
***last update I hated.
I should know better than to download an update after everything was working just fine. It is sooooo slow to load. I hate the news feed. Everything is totally random. I get stuff from day before. Too many "pages you might like" and "games you might like". Even after I click on "I don't want to see this" it still show up. Wrong photos showing up with wrong people. I don't understand why this app keeps getting worse every time. I hate it. Don't download the update.
