MagicMatch is a puzzle game where you have to solve fiddly tasks. It comes with 25 puzzles of different categories like Triangles, Squares, Hexagons and Equations.
In some puzzles you have to remove matches to solve them, in the other puzzles you have to rearrange the matches.
Matches can be moved across the table by simply dragging them and rotated by double tapping. If you tap one of the corners of the table, a popup menu will appear. This menu allows you to go to the next puzzle or to show you a possible solution of the current puzzle if you are at a point where you want to pull your hair out! Tap one corner again to hide the menu.
Beside english, MagicMatch currently includes also german descriptions of the puzzles.
What's New in Version 1.1
- added 25 new puzzles
- additional close button on the popup menu
Decent interface, flawed puzzle logic
This app's interface is nice looking and generally well-conceived, but is completely lacking solution detection. When you solve a puzzle, no indication is given as to the correctness of the solution. You have to bring up the puzzle options and click "Show Solution" (which then alters the current puzzle) and compare the given solution with yours by memory. This is just as well, as much of the puzzle logic is fundamentally flawed and the programmed solutions often arbitrary. Almost all of the arabic numeral (and most of the roman numeral) equation puzzles have more than one valid solution. Additionally, several of the "move two matches" equation puzzles can be solved more efficiently with a single match movement, which is sort of bad form for puzzles such as these. The geometric puzzles are similarly riddled with inconsistent logic, poor definitions (e.g. "diamond" shape?) and multiple correct solutions. The app description claims there are 25 puzzles, but there are more than that (I quit at around 30). The free-form interface is kind of cool, but I would urge the developers to pick their puzzles more carefully, change the instructions and/or gameplay, add (multiple-)solution detection, or all of the above.
