Bug Fixes and Improvements
Does the basics
This app does exactly what I need it to do: measure my distance, time, and pace on a run. There's too many in-app purchases for me to love it and there's a rather obnoxious sound feature that, at absolute minimum talks to me when I start and end my runs which is really annoying when I'm in public/get home when my roommate is still asleep so I wish the settings let me turn all sound cues off somehow. Doesn't seem to use any more background than other running apps but FYI anything working and tracking while the phone is off will eat up battery, especially on outdoor runs in extreme heat or cold. The service itself is relatively non-invasive save for emails when you break your personal in-app distance/calorie/time/elevation records, occasional sweepstakes-type offers, and occasional reminder emails when you haven't done an activity recently. I certainly recommend it if you just need a reliable app for basic tracking but I hope that another update will allow me to call the interface and software "streamlined" not "clunky."
Works but needs improvement!
I use Runkeeper on my iPhone and eventually plan to use it on my Apple Watch too; but from reviews the watch version is horrible.
What I am disappointed about is while walking in Manhattan runkeeper does a horrible job knowibg where I am through GPS. I mean they could work with Google and ket this app to work well as Google Maps works flawlessly on my iPhone and knows exactly where I am. Runkeeper thinks i'm moving when I stopped walking at an intersection or a red light in Manhattan. It also draws a "V" as my path while I'm walking a straight path uptown or downtown. I would be embarrassed to release such am app and have problems like this. PLEASE fix these problems. If the fitbit can do a much better job at knowing pace, steps, calories burned etc there is a problem.
Also, there is no way to turn off the annoying audio dictation! I have my phone muted and she still talks! There has to be an off switch for her and if you mute your phone it actually should be fully muted. Yesterday I walked into Trader Joes, stopped my workout and the app proceeded to talk very loudly telling me my distance traveled, calories burned, etc while my phone was muted. This is completely unnecessary.
ONE OF MY MOST-USED APPS OF ALL TIME
I have seen RunKeeper "grow up" over the six years I've used it. It is a reliable, stable, accurate app. I appreciate all of the free features (like speed/pace, elevation, heart rate charts, shoe mileage tracking, photo uploading). I've only recently started to make use of the Friends feed and I find it motivates me to get outside more. I love how seamlessly the app integrates what I want all in one place: accurate GPS tracking, music (including my own running playlists), and a voice that interrupts to tell me how far I've gone/current pace/etc (l have it set to notify me every mile). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. No reservations at all. I'm a fan!
