Over 650,000 locations in 144 countries worldwide!
Quickly and easily find FREE or paid Wi-Fi when you travel with the JiWire Wi-Fi Finder for iPhone and iPod Touch. Download all of the locations offline, so you know how to stay connected when you are on the road.
Using the GPS function on your iPhone, the Wi-Fi finder will tell you exactly where the closest Wi-Fi hotspot is, and how to get there.
If you prefer certain providers such as Comcast, you'll be able to see which hotspots are served by those providers. You can also filter by location type (restaurant, cafe, hotel, etc..). When you find the location you want to use, you'll be given a phone number and directions on how to get there.
JiWire works closely with the top pay and free service providers in the world to give you the most accurate and up-to-date information available.

Good, But Needs Ratings and Photos…Help Me Decide!
I use this app when traveling or in an unfamiliar area. Duh, right? This should be obvious, but needs stating because the obvious is being missed with this app. In high density areas it finds enough hotspots to offer a CHOICE - which is great - But offers no data on how to make that choice.
All public WiFi is not created equal.
All WiFi venues are not created equal.
But unfortunately, there is no data offered here to help me discern Starbucks "A" from Starbucks "B". Is it spacious and plush with seating? Or is it a broom closet with a line out the door? The filter by venue option is a start, but a simple photo of the venue could tell me more (see Yelp). User ratings of WiFi strength could help me avoid trying to pull a basketball through a garden hose. The goal of this app should be to illuminate the unknown. Too often I have followed it into quicksand.
With a few extra features, this app might save me time and effort enough for me to PAY for it. The irony.
Very helpful, but not always accurate.
I'm not sure if a peer-dependent app can ever be totally accurate, since you must rely on the knowledge base of others using the same app, but it's still quite helpful.
1. I've turned in a few free spots myself, (once even included the lat/long info), and have seen about half of them correctly added to the map (one spot ended up about 5 miles off-base & on a lake).
2. There is also a need for more of the "lesser known" spots, as in: not Starbucks or McDonald's every time, most people know about those already! I try to add those hidden WIFI gems when I come across them, but all of this being said, this app is still very helpful - especially when traveling in unknown regions.
I hope that the accuracy and numbers continue to improve as the user base becomes larger! So far, it's been very helpful to me, despite the aforementioned issues!
Nothing is perfect
Nothing is perfect. Some reviewers have complained that the iPod touch can not connect to GPS without Wi-Fi. This is true. So you should download the Offline version! While you still won't have GPS you will have the Location of the Wi-Fi hotspots. And since you don't have GPS anyway how do you normally find out where you are or how to get where you are going? This app is not magic! It tells you where you can find Wi-Fi hotspots. Plan ahead when you ARE at a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can get directions to the next one.
