I really like this app as it gives me all the data I was looking for. I do wish it integrated with the built in iPhone health hardware, but it does so many other things that it's really not a big deal (I honestly don't care how many steps I take, just how far I run/walk). So that isn't why I knocked off one star. The loss comes from its use of location services. It only gives you "never" or "always" as options. So that means that even when you are not actively using the app, it's still gathering data and eating away at your battery. I don't want to track my drive to work, or my walks inside the office. I want it to work only when using the app. So now I have to just turn on and off the location services in the settings before using the app. Not a big deal but a hassle that could easily be rectified. If they give me a third option of "only when using app" I would happily give this 5 stars.
Just what I was looking for
Have used it a few times and really liking it! Have been using the Nike+ app (also excellent!) but was looking for some more features / control. I think I’ve found my new running app.
POS: Lots of features, well designed. I especially like the ability to select what metrics are displayed while running. One app can handle running, walking, biking, etc. Syncs with their webpage. Free.
NEG: The screen rotates automatically before I start running. It’s difficult to use once in an arm strap (have to point the arm to the sky in order for the screen to be oriented correctly). Once the run begins, the screen stays as-is. Control of music is very weak so I turned that off (to be fair, it is labeled “beta”).
Love the functions on iRunner
iRunner is a great app but does have a few drawbacks. The speed (for cycling) isn't accurate, and wish it had a way to track anaerobic exercise without having to input data manually. Other than that, I think it's a really good app. It does a lot of functions that other apps try to charge you for the same data. I'm impressed with the GPS tracking, and the ability to connect to other apps like MyfitnessPal and devices like Fitbit. I do wish I could click on a previous activity and indicate to the app that I'm going to perform it again. I like iRunner way better than AppleHealth (completely worthless app), and Nike+ (which can never seem to calibrate my movements).
