“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge
How It Works:
Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.

A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 9.6.1
This update includes our brand new watchOS 2 app. If you have installed watchOS 2, you can channel your inner Dick Tracy and call Foursquare places directly from your watch! Simply force touch while viewing a place to start the call. It's the future!
And, as always, we've made a bunch of other bug fixes and speed improvements.
Handiest app when traveling around the world
Love this app. Good recommendations that fit me based on my usage and ratings. So useful to find anything from food to the arts and outdoor activities. It works around the world. Currently using it in Shanghai, the local Chinese app is pretty good, but this one is useful to get foreigners' perspectives on things since most can't speak Chinese. Also it's good that you can only write a certain amount of characters in your reviews. Forces you to get to the point. Which makes others' reviews better.
I can't believe how well they recovered
I'm honestly surprised at how useful the Foursquare app has become. Once gamification and check-ins died, I never thought I'd see Foursquare bounce back.
But here they are, with a better local experience than any other app currently gives (and especially better than Yelp).
Foursquare is Dead
I used to love this app. I would check in everywhere I went, collecting mayorships and deals.
Now no retailers use foursquare, so checking in is pointless.
I hate hate hate the new swarm app you have to down load with foursquare. Thanks for taking up more memory on my phone. Your developers should recombine them so it's not such a pain to use.
I turned to Yelp kicking and screaming, but now I love it. Retailers respect my reviews and when I complain, they will sometimes offer me a meal to comeback and retry their food.
