“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge

How It Works:

Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.

A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

What's New in Version 9.3

This Foursquare update includes:
- Found a place for dinner, and want a great place to go before for a quick drink? On each place’s page, you can now search for nearby places with a single tap.
- Looking at a place, and want to see bigger photos? When you’re flipping through their photos, we added a toggle so you can see them as full-size images or little thumbnails.
We also made some improvements to make the app run faster, and made a lot of other little improvements. Happy exploring!

Customer Reviews

Four corners for FourSquare.

I loved The Game in its original inception, early foursquare app. I understand growth and the need for change in order to keep up with competition and being relative. However, this does not take away from the fact that FourSquare/Swarm is not as useful for me as it once was.
FSQ: I prefer to using you over Yelp, but knowing a location's popular hours is not even close to as useful as knowing the ACTUAL HOURS OF BUSINESS.
SWM: The new stickers are fun, thanks for trying to bring back the old ones.
FSQ: I miss my lists. FSQ was how I tracked where I had been and where I wanted to go and why. I enjoyed using FSQ for this and DO NOT want to use Yelp or FB for this. Now I use Evernote for this, but would still rather use FSQ. A saved ribbon is too general.
Overall, I still try to use FSQ first~ I like them and WANT to use them over the others. Unfortunately, I still usually have to use the other apps or internet to get the actual information I am looking for. I will not give up hope though, that FSQ will be the app I use the most once again.

Better with each update

Thank you for constant improvement!
Also thank you for brining back thumbnail view for photos. Zoomed in does look nice, but when there are many photos, it's easier to chose the ones that look most interesting to zoom in.

I'm not sure if it was on purpose, but now when you save a place, it does the cute drop into saved folder move, but if you want to save the place into a category/list, you have to then click on "saved" and only from there in menu u can save to a list. Personally, I use this app because it lets me save into lists, and this does make it more annoying while surfing around and finding places of interest to use later.

Also, I know you guys are improving one step at a time, but that "me" page feels limited. I always open it and it shows me more tastes to choose. I always have a reaction to scroll it, but it doesn't scroll, just shows more items to add (or find people to follow). Hopefully this can become view profile page, tips etc. I think a lot can be summed up there and would be more useful to regular users that already picked over 200 tastes and would like to review their tips, history etc.

Again, thanks for constant improvement and actually reading our suggestions and fixing bugs that people mention. Looking forward to this again being the main app used to check in, find places and tips.

The only review system that is worth your time

Foursquare appears to be infinitely scaleable and easily accessible. The system is intuitive and you can go searching or have it push notifications. The feedback rating system (how many times your ratings have been seen this week and when you hit milestones) really helps you to tailor your ratings for the audience. Not that it restricts your ratings, but the number of repeat milestones (100 views) per review tells me that I've described and photographed the person, place, or thing in a manner, or in terms, that are valuable to the other Foursquare users.

Feedback is invaluable and no other rating service provides this class of user information. The Foursquare operation is a vast and complex relational database that is rock solid. Start here and end here. Everything but neurosurgeons' favorite sock colors can be found.
