“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge
How It Works:
Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.

A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 9.2
We added a few requested advanced features into this release:
- When you open the app and we sense you’re at a specific place, it’s just a single tap to see all the tips there. So you can be sure you’re always ordering the best thing.
- Want to add a place you love to a list? Now, you can tap on the three dots and there’s a quick option to add it to a list.
- Stumble across a list you love (like the best romantic date spots)? We made it easier to share it with your friends.
In addition, we fixed a few bugs and made the app run faster. Happy exploring!
Foursquare is awesome. Only app i could sign in and it shows me everything cool to do in my city. It shows me local bars, restaurants, entertainment etc what more can you ask for. Usually i have to find interesting thing to do on my own and this app basically puts it in front of you, you just have to choose what to do and go. I also like it because its great for travel. When im in another city it picks up my location and shows me all the things to do in that city what more can you ask for. I definitely give this app 5 stars! Its great because its easy to use which is very important usually apps are really tricky but this app is just straight forward. I definitely recommend downloading it.
Contextual recs just keep getting better
I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed with contextual (real-time) notifications. I don't mind passively sharing my location with 4SQ, but I expect for it to work both ways. I just spent an entire day in a new city without receiving any passive recs. This is the fifth time (4th different city) that has happened. What are you doing with all of these awesome tips that we're posting?
I've been using foursquare consistently since 2009, and I was among the first 40,000 users. It's sad to see that some of my favorite features (points, leaderboard, and badges) have now been removed. Said gamification elements compelled me to get out and explore the world around me.
That said, I'm excited to see where this new direction, that Foursquare is embarking upon, leads the company. With all the data that they are now gathering with "Pilgrim", passive recs should improve greatly in the coming weeks and months.
Although I'm not completely happy with all of the recent changes, I'm going to remain a loyal user of an app that has brought so much fun, joy, and adventure into my life over the years.
Foursquare keeps getting better!
Been a Foursquare user since 2011 and I can say without out a doubt, this is what Foursquare should be! Personalized suggestions and expertise make the app quite the experience. The Swarm split was needed in order for the developers to fully flesh out the experience. Looking forward see what's coming next!
