What's New in Version 2.4.4
We hope you're enjoying streaks, stats and some of the other features we've been releasing recently. Feel free to write us with feedback as a review or at email@example.com as usual!
NEW: better formatting for iPhone 6 and 6+. We've still got work to do here, but it should be a better experience for those of you on the cutting edge.
FIXED: Streak issues for users outside the US. If your streaks were reported incorrectly before, they should be better now.
FIXED: Tips and tricks and Easy Puzzles will now hide when you've completed them both. You can still find them again in your packs section.
FIXED: Too many other things to mention. As always, if it didn't work before, it may work now, so please try it again.
(Was) Practically Perfect
They added the stat tracking before this update, as promised, but now in some misguided attempt to make it better for iPhone 6 users, they've actually done the opposite and made it worse! The keyboard is too small to type on. All the work they did to make the app pretty and modern just went out the window. I will be reinstalling to the previous version.
Previous review: The NYT completely revamped their app, much to the dismay of their users, and with this latest update have fulfilled their promise to listen to everyone and have restored almost all of its former features. They promise with the next update to include stat tracking (the only thing still missing from the previous version of the app), and given how hard they've worked to give their customers the app they want since the major redesign, I have no reason to doubt them.
Very good crossword app for NY Times
This app makes crosswording easy and fast. They're updating it now, too, so it's improving all the time. It's my favorite puzzle app, although it's (almost) all about the NY Times puzzles.
You do have subscribe for the NY Times puzzles, and can purchase a number of other puzzles as well. Samples are free, though, and there are plenty of samples to get you going.
So if you do the NY Times crosswords, this is a great little app.
We should be used to this by now, but hope springs eternal. This is the 5th update in which a cosmetic fix is applied (hooray) and something that was not broken is fixed in such a way as to be unplayable (not so much hooray). On this one, the puzzle is automatically locked into a full zoom. And is unable to be changed. This means navigating the puzzle by sight is impossible. When you touch a square, the app tries to recenter, then randomly places the cursor in another square. It's frankly idiotic. I can't wait for the next version, where that will be fixed, and the next mistake made will be a fascinating new surprise.
