Orebuster is a fantastic RPG with an excellent early NES-style visual aesthetic. It's thin on plot but big on exploration, much like console RPGs of the 80s. In another similarity, it's minimal on instruction -- it's up to you to figure out how things work and what to do, with mere hints from NPCs that you can easily miss.
The game is by no means brutal or "Nintendo Hard", though. A lack of overworld battles and visible enemies in dungeons let you explore without the tedium of the periodic "press A to win" interruptions found in Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy (don't get me wrong, I love those games, but random battles are not the highlight of the jRPG experience). Furthermore, the ability to save anywhere allows you to easily experiment without losing large amounts of progress when your curiosity blows up in your face.
I spent all day playing this yesterday, from early morning til evening, and just finished it up. For an experienced gamer like me, that's a lot of playtime, especially from an app. I'm thrilled that this is only $1 and amazed it doesn't have more reviews.
PS -- For the user experiencing the "bug" or any others who think they have encountered it:
Your character has been confused. Use a Panacea and it'll be fixed. :]
Also, it appears that this whole game is made by a single person. That is freakin' amazing!
Love it!! Orebuster 2!!!!
this is a true rpg. though a little short, this game is diffucult and very fun. there is a couple of things i want though. 1. Is the ability to buy tonic incase you get "confuses". 2. is i would like save files. And 3. is the ability to flip the screen. other than these this game is amazing. Please make others like It!!!!!!! Give me orebuster 2
Great RPG + Great price = Awesome Game
Everything from the storyline to the pixels is awesome. The translation could use a little work but a lot of Japanese people aren't good with English and I respect that. The 16-BIT graphics take me back to the 90's... ahh.
I'm a little peeved that japan gets a part 2 though.
