I have been a zipcar member for about a year going on 2 years, and never had any major problems. When I say “major problems” I mean I never caused them (no tickets, accidents, followed all rules). I was renting their cars at a range of 3-6x a week on a schedule basis. On numerous occasions I had to call because cars aren’t returned on time, parked in wrong garages (which they forced me to walk to) even some not available where I had to take a cab and was reimbursed. But even after the inconsistency of the company and they very lazy customer service, I relied on them as my main transportation service until this week. Without notice, I was sent an email that stated my “account has been suspended, was a final notice, and irreversible” I called and thought “it’s just zipcar being disorganized again” but nope! The rep told me that me account was suspended because of “an investigation” they were running on my account (which was never mentioned) I asked if it was a billing problem- “the email doesn’t say, just that it’s a final decision” rep says. Ok so they transfer me to a manager and he literally reads the email to me and says there isn’t anymore information he can give me. When I asked to speak to a different department, he says there isn’t a way to email that department and no one else to speak to. So now I’m moving on to a different car sharing company that values my money and time. If I could give it less stars, I would!
Was a member of zipcar community for about 2 years but cancelled this morning.
Customer service has gone downhill and the supervisors do not car. A ticket violation was issued to a vehicle that I had under my name during a commuter plan bill cycle. Problem? The violation was issued in East Hampton NY, and the vehicle in question was not even the right color, or model yet Zipcar paid the fine only because the plates were the same but did not bother to confirm the state in which the plates were issued. They them charge me for the violation because they failed to notify whoever had the vehicle. After getting off the phone with the courthouse they requested me to retrieve all the information for my vehicle so the ticket could be dismissed. Problem? Zipcar avoids, beats around or pretends to write the information but does not comply with giving the information. They ignored my emails, supervisors dont care, and I have requested in writing what is needed and they continue to ignore it. After reporting to customer service many times over the phone and email, again no answers. This just proves again, that this is a company going downhill with customer service and officially terminated and cut all ties with Zipcar. I would rather go to Enterprise car share over this nonsense. I DO NOT recommend this service, I DO NOT recommend this company moving forward. Save your money.
2 stars because if you barely need a car for 1-2 hours, less than once a week, then MAYBE it’s fine, but don’t count on this service to be reliable or worth your money. ALWAYS a problem with my reservation! Would be nice to have ONE reservation go smoothly & I don’t have to call and deal with their AWFUL customer service. Once or twice they’ve been nice and helpful, but 8/10 rude customer service (poor attitude, or they’ll hang up on you). Cars smell bad, full of trash, aren’t where they should be when I’m ready to pick up, one time I went to access my reserved car & the alarm started going off....another time I was driving and the car started having some steering problems that you really don’t want to have while going 60mph in heavy traffic! By the time I was able to safely pull over, the check engine light came on. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS and not once has Zipcar made an effort to make it right. Tons of additional fees on top of the steep hourly rate and monthly membership dues. No customer appreciation in terms of discount days or coupons/sales. You will have to fight with their RUDE customer service every step of the way just so they won’t overcharge you or expect you to pay full price for a car with loads of problems. Yikes!!
