Touch Mouse

By Logitech Inc.

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

Touch Mouse by Logitech turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless trackpad and keyboard for your computer.

Do you connect your computer to your TV? Touch Mouse is the perfect solution for when you want to stay in control from the comfort of your couch. Point, click, scroll and type in any application—on a Mac or a PC.

Touch Mouse works over Wi-Fi, so you can use it anywhere in the house. And to make typing easier, text is displayed on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch as you type, so you can see what you’re doing without having to continually look up and down.

- Multi-touch trackpad with option for two or three buttons
- Two-finger scrolling
- Keyboard with modifier keys
- On-screen text display while typing
- Show or hide the keyboard at any time
- Trackpad and keyboard are available in landscape and portrait modes

To make Touch Mouse work, you will need to download the Touch Mouse Server software from and install it on your Mac or PC. This software enables the Touch Mouse app on your iPhone or iPod touch to find your computer and communicate with it.

- Mac with OS X 10.5 or higher
- PC with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
- Computer and iPhone or iPod touch must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
- Touch Mouse Server software must be installed and running on the computer you want to control

Cool App

In this apps current version 1.0 I give this app a 5 star rating. It works like it's supposed to and works well. I don't have my pc hooked up to my tv but I have been using my iPhone as the mouse for my desktop pc and I enjoy using it a lot.

If the developer is open to suggestions for improvement, I'd suggest making an option in the Settings screen to turn on or off the ability to tap in the tracking area as a mouse click so you have to tap the left, middle, or right icons to click. Sometimes I'll be moving my finger around on the tracking area and when I lift my finger off or accidently retouch my finger on it, it registers as me clicking the mouse when I don't intend for it too. Make it so we have to click the mouse buttons to register as a mouse click if we need that ability by making it an option.

2nd, how about the ability to click and drag? Maybe a icon down at the bottom next to the keyboard icon that registers as holding down the left mouse button while you move your finger to the tracking area to move things around, like your files, desktop icons, etc. Then to turn it off simply press the left button icon again. I saw the Dragging option in the settings but I don't know how that works but I know it didn't work for me as a traditional mouse click and drag.

This app is very nice however, works great, and it's awesome that it is free. Good job Logitech !!!

Easy set-up; Not quite intuitive; One bug; Free

This product is very easy to set up and works right out of the virtual box. Two flaws however, one of which could be overcome by adding a setting.

First the expectation with this app is that it would work like a true trackpad (without buttons). That means one should be able to double-tap & hold to click & drag. That, in turn, would allow turning off all of the buttons (you can currently just turn off the center) and have full screen real estate for movement and interactioin. Instead we have the somewhat clunky double-tap of the left button to initiate dragging *if* you turn that option on. As stated above, a setting would allow those of us who prefer this to work this way, without removing the option for those who like the buttons for some reason.

Second is a bug, on the Mac OS at least. Click-dragging does not work with windows. It only works on icons. That's just wrong and prevents this from being a 5-star app. Click-dragging the title bar of a window should move that window. Standard interface rule.

I hope that future versions allow connection via Bluetooth (should the powers that be at AT&T decide to bestow tethering upon us unwashed masses).

Other than that, this app shows great promise and may satisfy most users right now. I'd actually like to give 3.5 stars (1 off for the bug, 1/2 off for the feature), but will be generous because Logitech is giving us this for free.

Improvements would make it excellent.

I use it everyday. Great for navigating from the couch with ease, and typing long winded essays. There are a few things worth mentioning which keeps this app from it's full potential.

1. All security dialog pop ups on the PC makes Touchmouse become inactive, and security dialogs must be manually accepted by using the PC mouse. Once accepted, then you can resume Touchmouse.
2. Touch mouse app does not pass Windows security checks upon reboot or upon executing the app. Which means it can not be listed as a startup app in Windows 7 and Touchmouse must be manually executed in between reboots before use.
3. The iPhone app R/L button could be smaller or retract to give touch surface more surface area in portrait mode to avoid accidental clicking. Incorporate a TAB key to circumvent the minimized touch surface in landscape mode.
4. The iPhone app Shift up key stays active during keyboard use and is a frustrating with an already tedious QWERTY layout. Which means you have to manually uncapitalize letters.
5. Have an option to turn off/on landscape mode with iPhone app. Flopping between the two modes when you move the phone is not very useful in most situations. However, landscape is useful for quicker typing.
6. Add a couple of function buttons F4, F5 and TAB button for us power users on the iPhone app.

In short, great for simple use, but tedious for a true on the couch PC entertainment, surfing, and typing experience.
