Description

Better dates come from better connections. That’s why OkCupid shows off who you really are, beyond just a photo. You should get noticed for what makes you, well, you—because you deserve what dating deserves: better.

HOW IT WORKS

Rich profiles highlight your personality and interests. Questions inform our algorithm so we get to know your deal breakers, and what you care about most. OkCupid Discovery helps you search for people who share your passions. Our one-of-a-kind messaging system lets you focus only on the connections you’re interested in, and none of the ones you’re not.

Sounds like a nice change, right?

Ok, let’s dive a little deeper.

OK Cupid has been around for quite a while on the internets, but when I got back into the dating scene after a pretty long time I didn’t consider it right away. But I’m glad I eventually did. Yes, it has an app and here you are deciding if you should bother with it. People tend to use Tinder these days, right? But I’m glad I downloaded OKC and reactivated my account. OKC goes beyond tinder and the like in that they have questions that assess the user’s personality and leanings (political/philosophical/religious/relational/sexual or lack thereof) and attempts to match them with similar/compatible people. Answering the questions isn’t mandatory nor intrusive, but it helps a lot (and it’s also an icebreaker of sorts). So people on OKC tend to have put more effort into their profiles and seem to be more serious about meeting someone. If you are actually interested in reading (skimming, at least) a profile before swiping right, this could be the place for you.

There are some limitations to the app but if you login on the web you can access a few more features. Without a paid account you can’t see who likes you. But if you do find someone who seems great, it’s an incentive to message them. If you both like each other then you’ll see the match. All of the dating apps have some UI quirks. OKC seems to function pretty well overall. If you’re looking to meet someone and want to get into some depth with the match, I recommend it.

Boycotting it just like Snapchat. Disgusted.

I can no longer tolerate this app, it’s tedious. I got the app because I am a busy person. I enjoyed flipping through my messages that people sent and looking at their profile of those who said something. Now I must scroll through dozens of profiles to see MY messages. I don’t care of the excuses the creators have. I have the right to my messages. It’s not fun to scroll through profiles that you don’t care about. There is too much pressure to “like” that it’s seems forced. If I don’t press “like” I don’t get to talk. I will most likely download other dating apps because I deserve to see my own messages. Also all my old book marks are gone from before, I lost track of older profiles I really liked and were talking to. The app itself however is good quality and has very few bugs. Very disappointed in the major changes, hopefully others will agree with me and they (the app) will fix their message restrictions and deleted bookmarks. I am only one person, but I hope if enough people stop using the app for a long time they will return to how it used to be, just like when people boycotted the bad Snapchat update and Snapchat decided to go back. I am very disappointed and their is nothing they can do until they let us see our messages and old bookmarks. I lost track of so many nice people. I do dislike you can’t see a profile once you message them because sometimes I forget to bookmark

Sorry for the confusion. Once you send a message, the profile and your message will disappear until the person replies. You will show in that person’s DoubleTake more often to maximize chances of your profile being seen! This was once the best dating site around, but since it was bought by the giant Match conglomerate, they’ve gradually stripped away all the useful features. Their most recent change was removing the ability to see visitors, a change NO ONE wanted and that has been universally unpopular and agreed upon that it has finally completely ruined the site. They’ve been in a vicious circle of losing (active) users and removing features that drive more users away. What was once a great and fun site is now a featureless ghost town. Shame. RIP OkCupid.

Edit: OkCupid responds… with the same nonsense they’re selling to everyone else. It seems OkCupid has a preternatural aversion to admitting they’re wrong. They keep citing their “research” (that they won’t actually make public other than self-referencing the supposed results) but ignore the FACT that well over 90 percent of the hundreds of responses to their blog announcement of removing visitors were clearly vehemently opposed to it. Same with the reviews here. Even if they did have “research” which showed this was a good idea (which I’m dubious of – this is a site that has admired to manipulating users before as a big social experiment, they’re certainly not above lying) the fact is that research was wrong. NO ONE likes this change and they just won’t listen or even acknowledge the overwhelming majority of users who hate their recent changes. They’ll stubborn themselves to their own demise.

Our tests showed removing visitors boosted messaging, and we hope everyone will benefit. Read more: http://bit.ly/2vKwSnP If this was the only reason you bought A list, write to support@okcupid.com ATTN billing.
