The best digital handwriting on iPad. Penultimate combines distraction-free, natural handwriting and sketching with the power of Evernote’s sync and search. Take class or meeting notes, journal your thoughts, or outline your next big idea—in the office or on the go. From the first stroke, Penultimate makes the experience of pen and paper more productive.

Notes and drawings look spectacular in black or colored ink. Our inking technology produces pen strokes that look natural, and Wrist Protection prevents stray marks for writers of all grips. Choose from a number of paper styles, or import an image to create personalized paper.

We worked closely with Adonit to create the stylus we've always wanted: the Jot Script Evernote Edition, the first true precision-point stylus. Penultimate integrates tightly with the stylus and together they make digital handwriting the experience it should be. It’s like writing with your favorite pen. Available now in the Evernote Market.

Penultimate lets you work on any part of the page effortlessly. To zoom in on a location on the page, simply pinch in and start writing. With Penultimate's Drift feature enabled, the page will move along with you, automatically adjusting to the pace you are working at.

Sign in to your Evernote account in the Penultimate app to organize your Penultimate notes in notebooks, separated by topic, project, or category. Your Penultimate notes are synced to Evernote automatically, so you can find and share them across all of your devices.

No matter how you prefer to organize your work, Penultimate makes it easy to find the notes you need. Penultimate processes your notes so you can search for handwritten text in the app. Save and browse your work in notebooks and insert, delete, duplicate, and reorganize pages any way you like within them.

Penultimate is free to download and use. Evernote Premium adds great features across all of the Evernote applications. In Penultimate, Passcode Lock and unlimited Paper Shop access are included. Premium is available through an auto-renewing subscription.

Two subscription options:
- Evernote Premium monthly for $5
- Evernote Premium annually for $45

Subscriptions will be charged to your credit card through your iTunes account. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. You will not be able to cancel a subscription during the active period. Manage your subscriptions in the Account Settings after purchase.

Customer Reviews

Penultimate 6.0.3 provides too little, too late.

Okay. My Jot stylus is working in Penultimate, sort of. So I gave it a test run.

Dang, it's hard to get this app into landscape mode. Drift speed is, well, back to what it used to be in v. 5, as nearly as I can tell. The line advance distance (line height) in the zoom box not only is not adjustable, but is also not related to whatever paper you're using at the moment. I couldn't adjust it before, but at least it was set to a reasonable line height for whatever paper I was using. There seems to be only one line advance height setting for all papers. The line return button is on the left, not the right where I would expect it. That, too, is not adjustable.

I will give Evernote credit -- I couldn't get far enough into the app for all these irritations to surface before. But the plain fact is, I'm spoiled. Spoiled by landscape mode that's as easy to use as portrait mode. Spoiled by completely adjustable line height. Spoiled by totally customizable paper. Spoiled by Evernote integration that's as good as Evernote's own. Spoiled by button locations I can choose. Spoiled by an app that lets me choose which documents I want to integrate to Evernote. Spoiled by much better support for Evernote's own stylus.

This is the last version of Penultimate I will bother to review. I am now a Noteshelf user.

This was one of the best Apps at start... Now, Crap

This was one of my favorite apps when I first purchased it at launch. I used it regularly as a quick sketch pad or a quick note. I started using a company tablet and I did not use this app for awhile. I just now launched it for the first time in months and was ask to log into Evernote. Why? My notes are none of their business. A bunch of crapola.

And after creating a false account to get in, I find the app is so changed and basically unusable. Can't even get my notes that were created in landscape mode to show in landscape mode. This is crap for an app that I paid for and now FORCED to updates that make my purchase useless. This app is useless and if Evernote can't see it by their crap design, I will never support their service. The user interface use to be so elegant and engaging. Now... Crap. Save your download and find something else. (Yes I used crap several times because I am very frustrated that what was once my favorite go to app is now useless).

Almost there

First off, thanks Evernote for listening. While another company might've ignored the reviews and continued on, you listened to us! I'm happy you brought back some necessary features such as auto scroll and the separation in the pages. the writing is also slightly improved and I'm starting to get used to the ADJUSTABLE zoom box, I kind of would like to just zoom full in like previously, or given the option to turn the zoom in box off because I used to just lay my arm on the iPad and write that way with the jot pro stylus. Another missing feature is the ability to select pages and email them, this was extremely useful but is still gone, I hope you add this in the future. I would also like changing the color to the files as it seems to choose at random so I have one bright green and one slightly darker green file. You're almost there Evernote keep it up. THANKS
