Ratings and Reviews
Variants are worth it
The variants are what differentiates this chess app from all the others on the app store and I found them great fun (especially when playing solo against computer). I really like the Peasants' Revolt variant (4 knights vs 8 pawns). It's a fun way to explore the relative strength of pieces. Upside down chess is nuts for the number of queens that end up on the board at once.
App has nice level of polish and with the 1.1 update is quite stable (played on gen 1 iphone and ipad). An ipad version would be nice, but scaled up version scales surprisingly well.
Awesome Chess Game
Chess+More is a great deal at $1.99. It offers fantastic chess variants that are fun, ituitive to play and have a nice and polished look. The chess engine is fast in terms of response time. I am very happy with my purchase as this app has given me dozens of hours of great entertainment. Thanks + keep up the good work.
I have no idea why the previous reviewer gave it 2 stars and said that it crashes. I have not experienced a single crash, ever.
My phone specs are: iPhone 4, firmware 4.1
Learning a lot from the variants
If you've seen any of Josh's other apps, you know he has a good eye for detail and does a good job on app "fit and finish." You won't be surprised to learn that this chess app has the nice feel and smooth response you would expect.
I've been enjoying playing the variants, which in addition to being interesting in their own right, often are set up so that you can get a lot of practice with a particular piece or set of pieces.
The undo function is nicely done and unobtrusive. It's handy for when you fat-finger a piece into the wrong space of course, but also for taking back blunders where you would otherwise resign.
The recommended/possible moves are nicely done.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
